To get cores in Frostpunk 2, send Frostland Teams on expeditions. Check a region’s possible findings for the core icon before dispatch, then explore the revealed nodes after your team arrives to find and collect the cache.
How to find cores in Frostland
- Build or expand Logistics Districts. They provide the Frostland Teams needed to explore. Expanding them can add teams, giving you more capacity to send expeditions.
- Choose a region and check its possible findings. Before committing a team, look for the core icon among the region’s listed discoveries. This helps you avoid sending a team somewhere that is not shown as a potential core location.
- Send a team on an expedition. Once the team reaches the region, explore its revealed nodes. Finding the core icon in the preview identifies a possible region, not necessarily the exact node containing the cache.
- Explore the nodes and collect the cache. Continue exploring the revealed locations until you uncover the cores.

How many cores should you expect?
Cores are scarce in the guides’ account, not an ordinary renewable city resource. PC Gamer characterizes typical finds as one or two cores, but that is a guide-reported expectation, not a guaranteed result for every expedition or campaign. Check your game’s current version and the specific location rather than planning around a fixed early-game total.
Because cores are used for advanced buildings and generator upgrades, spend them according to the needs of your current campaign plan. The cited guides do not establish a single best upgrade order for every playthrough.
