To produce Goods in Frostpunk 2, select an Industrial District, open its production options, and switch its output from Prefabs to Goods. The district also needs Materials available to operate; if production does not start, check the city’s Materials supply first.
Switch an Industrial District to Goods
- Build or select an Industrial District. These districts can produce either Prefabs or Goods, and they do not need to be placed on a resource deposit. Shacknews
- Open the district menu and choose Goods in its production options. The menu icon may vary by platform or game version, so use the named output option rather than relying on an icon.
- Check Materials. Materials are an operating input for Goods production; if the required input is unavailable, production can stop. Frostpunk 2 Wiki
Choose between Goods and Prefabs
An Industrial District’s output choice is a trade-off: Goods support consumer supply, while Prefabs are used to construct districts and buildings. Shifting capacity to Goods means less capacity producing Prefabs, so consider your near-term construction plans before changing output. There is no established universal ratio or ideal number of districts; the right split depends on your city’s current needs.
| Output | What it supports | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Goods | Consumer-goods supply; insufficient supply is associated with lower Heatstamps income and higher Crime. | Requires Materials to operate. Frostpunk 2 Wiki |
| Prefabs | Construction of districts and buildings. | Reducing Prefab output can constrain building plans. Shacknews |
Why Goods production may not work
- The district is still set to Prefabs: reopen its production options and select Goods.
- Materials are unavailable: check the city’s Materials supply, since production needs this input.
- You expected a resource deposit to be required: Industrial Districts do not have to sit on a deposit to produce Goods.
Where to place the district
Because a resource deposit is not required, use suitable cleared land and consider nearby districts. A community-maintained reference associates adjacency to Housing Districts with Squalor and adjacency to Food Districts with Disease; it does not identify a Goods-specific adjacency bonus. Treat those adjacency notes as guidance from that reference, not as a developer rule. Frostpunk 2 Wiki
Manage Goods supply as the city changes
Insufficient Goods are associated with lower Heatstamps income and increased Crime, but the available references do not establish one target amount that suits every city or difficulty. Check the city’s current Goods need and consequences, then adjust Industrial District output alongside your construction plans. Production can be switched between Goods and Prefabs as those priorities change.
