“fruity drumsynth live.dll” errors you may see
Windows may display one of these typical loader messages:
- “The application can’t start because fruity drumsynth live.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “fruity drumsynth live.dll was not found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because fruity drumsynth live.dll was not found.”
- “The application or DLL fruity drumsynth live.dll is not a valid Windows image.”
The exact wording varies by Windows version, host application, and the missing file or dependency.
The 60-second answer
fruity drumsynth live.dll belongs to Fruity DrumSynth Live, an FL Studio instrument from Image-Line. It is not a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or audio driver.
The safest first fix is to close FL Studio, download the current installer from Image-Line’s official FL Studio download page, and run it over the existing installation. Do not uninstall first. Keep the native plugin components selected, start FL Studio, then use Options > File settings > Manage plugins and select Find installed plugins with Verify plugins enabled.

Do not download a replacement DLL from a random DLL website or copy it into System32. The filename in the error may not even be Image-Line’s canonical installed filename.
What this file is and why the filename can be misleading
Image-Line describes Fruity DrumSynth Live as the FL Studio plugin version of DrumSynth, originally created by Maxim Digital Audio. It is installed with FL Studio or with an older DrumSynth Live installation, depending on the system and project history.
Image-Line’s documentation does not confirm the exact spaced filename fruity drumsynth live.dll. Public installation inventories report names including:
DrumSynth_Eng.dllDrumSynth_Eng_x64.dllIL DrumSynth Live.dll
Those names and paths can vary between releases. A download site may also normalize, rename, or infer the filename from a Windows error. Therefore, treat the complete error path and the actual files in your FL Studio installation as more useful evidence than the filename alone.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Modern FL Studio installations normally use a path similar to:
C:Program FilesImage-LineFL Studio N
Older installations may use:
C:Program Files (x86)Image-LineFL Studio N
A related DrumSynth installation may also have its own Image-Line folder. These are version-dependent locations, not guaranteed paths.
Before repairing anything, determine which situation applies:
- FL Studio is installed and the plugin recently stopped working.
- FL Studio was updated, moved, cleaned, or restored from backup.
- Antivirus software quarantined part of the installation.
- An old project was opened on another computer.
- An older standalone DrumSynth Live installation is being launched.
- The plugin is still installed but does not appear in FL Studio’s plugin list.
Fix 1: Repair FL Studio with the official installer
This is the most likely solution for an incomplete, damaged, or partially removed installation.

- Save your FL Studio projects and close FL Studio.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Image-Line’s official FL Studio download page in your browser.
- Download the installer that matches your Windows installation and FL Studio account.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Choose the existing FL Studio installation location when prompted.
- Leave the native FL Studio plugin components selected.
- Complete the installation over the current copy.
- Restart Windows again.
- Open FL Studio and load the project or instrument that produced the error.
Image-Line states that updating over an existing installation does not normally require uninstalling first and preserves projects, settings, and plugins. Reinstalling this way also gives the installer an opportunity to restore matching native plugin files instead of mixing files from different releases.
How to tell whether it worked
The repair succeeded if FL Studio starts normally, the affected project loads, and Fruity DrumSynth Live can be added from the generator plugin menu.
If FL Studio opens but the instrument is absent, continue with the plugin scan below. If the installer reports that the installation path is unavailable or cannot write files, check the path, available disk space, and Windows Security history before attempting a clean installation.
Fix 2: Rescan the plugin and check the database
A plugin can be present on disk but missing from FL Studio’s menu because it was not scanned, was previously disabled, or is not marked as a favorite.
- Open FL Studio.
- Select Options from the top menu.
- Choose File settings.
- Open Manage plugins.
- Enable Verify plugins.
- Select Find installed plugins.
- If the plugin remains absent, select Rescan previously verified plugins if that option is available.
- Wait for the scan to finish.
- Search the plugin list for Fruity DrumSynth Live or DrumSynth.
- Mark the discovered plugin as a favorite if you want it to appear in the normal Add menu.
Do not add random Windows folders to FL Studio’s plugin search paths. This plugin is a native FL Studio component, so repairing the FL Studio installation is preferable to forcing FL Studio to scan arbitrary locations.
If the plugin appears in the scan but will not load, note the exact error and full path shown by FL Studio. A plugin that is listed but fails to load may be corrupted or may not match the host architecture.
Fix 3: Check the actual file and the 32-bit or 64-bit match
Use File Explorer to search the drive where FL Studio is installed for:
DrumSynth_Eng.dll
DrumSynth_Eng_x64.dll
IL DrumSynth Live.dll
These are reported public filenames, not a universal Image-Line manifest. Your installation may use another name.

If a matching file exists inside the FL Studio installation but the error names a different path, the problem may be an old project reference, an obsolete shortcut, or a stale plugin database entry. Rescan the plugin rather than copying the file.
Also check the host architecture:
- A 64-bit FL Studio installation should use its matching 64-bit native components.
- A 32-bit FL Studio installation should use its matching 32-bit components.
- Do not copy a DLL from another FL Studio release to bridge an architecture mismatch.
- Do not combine files from a standalone DrumSynth installation with files from a newer FL Studio installation.
The practical repair for an architecture mismatch is to reinstall the matching FL Studio build and allow its installer to place the files. There is no confirmed universal DLL version, size, or hash that can safely be substituted.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus or endpoint-security software can remove or quarantine an application file. This is a diagnostic possibility, not proof that the plugin is malicious.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any event that names FL Studio, DrumSynth, or an Image-Line installation file.
- Check the detected file path and action.
- Restore or allow the file only when you have verified that it came from the official Image-Line installer and the installation has not been modified.
Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the computer. If the file came from a torrent, crack, repack, or unofficial installer, do not restore it. Remove that installation, scan Windows, and reinstall FL Studio from Image-Line instead.

Fix 5: Use a clean FL Studio reinstall only when necessary
A clean reinstall is more disruptive and should follow the normal installer repair.
Back up your projects first. Also record custom sample folders, plugin search paths, templates, and settings that you may need to restore.
The general process is:
- Close FL Studio.
- Back up projects and important user data.
- Remove the damaged FL Studio installation folder.
- Remove the relevant Image-Line shared folder only when the official clean-install instructions call for it.
- Restart Windows.
- Download a fresh installer from Image-Line.
- Install FL Studio again.
- Restore your custom search folders.
- Run Options > File settings > Manage plugins.
- Select Find installed plugins with Verify plugins enabled.
- Reapply your license if required.
- Test a copy of the affected project.
Do not delete user data casually. If you are unsure which shared folder belongs to FL Studio, stop before deleting it and use Image-Line’s clean-install documentation or support channel.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if Windows itself is failing
DISM and SFC are not normal repairs for a missing Image-Line plugin. They may help if you are also seeing failures in Windows services, system applications, installers, or other unrelated programs.
Open Start, type Command Prompt, right-click it, and select Run as administrator. Run these commands separately:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete and test FL Studio again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC when repairing damaged Windows components. These commands do not normally restore a third-party Image-Line DLL. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but the plugin is still missing, return to the official FL Studio repair rather than repeating them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRunning these commands manually can mean hunting through logs and repeating scans without knowing what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows detected issues, while repair actions require the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling FL Studio remains the definitive fix for this plugin.

Fruity DrumSynth Live is an FL Studio instrument, not a graphics, chipset, storage, or audio driver. Updating drivers is not the normal solution for a missing plugin file.
Consider a driver check only if you also have unrelated audio-device failures, crashes across multiple applications, or a Device Manager warning.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not remove a working audio driver merely because fruity drumsynth live.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention, while driver installation requires the full version; it is optional and will not replace the FL Studio component itself.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Why System32 and regsvr32 are the wrong fixes
Do not copy this plugin into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders contain Windows system libraries. Placing an application plugin there can create version conflicts, expose Windows to an untrusted binary, and still leave FL Studio looking in the wrong location.
regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It registers DLLs that provide the expected DllRegisterServer entry point. It does not download a missing file, repair a corrupted plugin, or make an ordinary FL Studio plugin compatible with a different host.

If only one old project fails
If current FL Studio projects work but one older project reports the missing file, the project may reference a plugin version that is no longer installed. Work on a copy of the project.

Install the matching FL Studio or DrumSynth release through an official Image-Line source if it is still supported. Otherwise, open the project with the available plugin and replace the instrument with a supported equivalent, preserving the original project file.
FAQ
Is fruity drumsynth live.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Fruity DrumSynth Live, an FL Studio instrument. It is not supplied by Windows, DirectX, .NET, or a Microsoft Visual C++ package.
Should I download the DLL by itself?
No. A standalone DLL may be malicious, the wrong architecture, from the wrong release, or missing related files. Use the official Image-Line FL Studio installer.
Why can’t I find the exact filename?
Image-Line does not confirm the spaced filename in its documentation. The error may use an alias or a normalized name, while the installed component may use a name such as DrumSynth_Eng_x64.dll.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
There is no evidence that a Microsoft runtime is the normal remedy for this particular plugin. Repair FL Studio first.
What should I send Image-Line support?
Provide your FL Studio version, Windows version, full error text, complete file path, whether the suspected file exists, whether FL Studio is 32-bit or 64-bit, and any relevant Windows Security event. Image-Line’s support channel can then distinguish an installation problem from an old project or licensing issue.
