Do not begin by copying a DLL into C:WindowsSystem32. That often leaves the damaged application untouched and can introduce a mismatched or unsafe file.
What rjwmapln.dll is
The file is identified as the Windows Media Audio import plugin associated with RealNetworks software. It has been found in RealPlayer, RealTimes, RealPlayer SP, and related installations, commonly inside an application folder under C:Program FilesRealRealPlayer.
Historical public file listings identify a 32-bit build numbered 18.1.8.212 with a size of approximately 93.4 KB. Treat those details as identification clues, not as proof that the same build is correct for every installation or that it is included in the current RealPlayer release.

The error may appear as one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because rjwmapln.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting rjwmapln.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading rjwmapln.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because rjwmapln.dll was not found.”
- “rjwmapln.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The phrase “specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named file itself is absent. A dependency required by the DLL may also be missing or damaged.
Fix 1: Identify the application before changing Windows
First establish which executable is requesting the file.
- Read the complete error window and note the application name.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Startup apps and look for RealPlayer, RealTimes, or an unfamiliar media entry.
- Right-click the entry and select Open file location, if available.
- In File Explorer, inspect the folder and its parent folders for
Real,RealPlayer, orRealTimes. - Search the drive containing the application:
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Type
rjwmapln.dllin the search box. - Record the full path of any result.
A path inside the affected program’s own directory is useful evidence. A copy in System32 or SysWOW64 does not prove that Windows owns the file. Application DLLs are normally loaded from the application directory or another location specified by that application.
If the file is not needed anymore and the error appears only during startup, remove the obsolete RealNetworks startup entry or uninstall the unused program instead of restoring a DLL merely to silence it.

Windows can repair some installed applications without removing their settings.
Repair through Windows Settings
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find RealPlayer, RealTimes, or the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the affected application again.
If the application opens without the DLL message, the repair restored or replaced the required files.
Some desktop programs expose repair through Control Panel instead:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected RealNetworks program.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If there is no Repair or Change option, continue with a clean reinstall.

Fix 3: Uninstall and reinstall the RealNetworks application
This is the most reliable fix when the DLL was removed by an incomplete uninstall, failed update, cleanup utility, or damaged installation.
- Close RealPlayer, RealTimes, and any media tools from the notification area.
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the RealNetworks application.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Check
C:Program FilesandC:Program Files (x86)for a leftover Real or RealPlayer folder. - Do not delete personal media files. Remove only clearly abandoned application files if the uninstaller left them behind.
- Download the current RealPlayer installer from RealNetworks’ official RealPlayer page or use RealNetworks’ official uninstall and reinstall instructions.
- Install the application with the normal installer.
- Start it and test the operation that previously failed.
RealNetworks notes that some older RealPlayer versions are no longer available for download. If an old application or saved project requires a discontinued release, the current installer may not be an exact replacement. In that situation, record the original executable name and version and contact the software vendor rather than using a DLL from an unrelated archive.
A successful reinstall should restore the application’s own plugin files and remove the startup error. If the same message returns immediately, check antivirus history and the application path before repeating the installation.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Microsoft Defender or another antivirus program may have removed the file. This is possible, but do not assume the quarantine action was a false positive.

- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any entry referring to RealPlayer, RealTimes, or
rjwmapln.dll. - Confirm the original file path and the detected threat.
- If the file came from the legitimate application installation, update the security definitions and scan the application before considering restoration.
Only restore a quarantined file when you have confirmed its source and have no indication of tampering. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can put the computer at risk. In most cases, reinstalling the complete application is safer than restoring one quarantined DLL.
If Defender removes the file again after reinstalling, leave it quarantined and investigate the detection with the application vendor.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Historical public listings identify rjwmapln.dll as a 32-bit file. That is consistent with older RealNetworks software, many builds of which are 32-bit even when installed on 64-bit Windows.
Do not replace it with a similarly named 64-bit file. A 32-bit application generally needs the vendor’s 32-bit plugin, and Windows keeps separate 32-bit and 64-bit system locations under WOW64.

To identify the application architecture:
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and select Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if that column is available.
- Check whether the affected executable is listed as 32-bit or 64-bit.
You can also inspect the installation folder. Older 32-bit applications commonly appear under C:Program Files (x86), although folder location alone is not definitive.
The correct response to an architecture mismatch is to reinstall the owning application. Do not move files between System32, SysWOW64, and the application directory.
Fix 6: Repair a missing dependency
If rjwmapln.dll exists in the correct application folder but Windows still reports “The specified module could not be found,” another dependency may be missing.
- Reinstall the complete RealNetworks application first.
- Check whether the error names another DLL, such as an
MSVCP###.dllorVCRUNTIME###.dllfile. - If a Microsoft runtime DLL is named, install the matching Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.
- Match the runtime architecture to the application. A 32-bit program may need the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Do not install Visual C++ merely because rjwmapln.dll is missing. There is no verified evidence that rjwmapln.dll itself is a Visual C++ runtime file.
For a deeper diagnosis, use the application’s own logs or a reputable dependency-analysis tool to identify which library cannot be loaded. A present-but-rejected DLL may indicate a damaged file, incompatible build, or missing dependency rather than a search-path problem.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a third-party RealNetworks DLL, so use them as a secondary step.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupt files, retest after restarting. If both commands report no integrity violations but the application still cannot start, return to the RealPlayer repair or reinstall path.
Repeating SFC and DISM without recording what they changed rarely helps with an application-owned DLL. Fix 8: Check recent drivers or media software changes
A driver is not the usual owner of rjwmapln.dll, but a recent audio, video, capture, or media-software change may have exposed the error.

Check Windows Update first:
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
For a specific device:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio or capture device.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Use Update Driver or Roll Back Driver only when the timing clearly connects the error to that driver change.
- Restart and test the application.
Do not remove a working device driver simply because this DLL is missing. If you need help identifying stale hardware drivers instead of hunting through Device Manager one by one, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for candidates; its driver installation features require the full version, and it does not replace reinstalling the application that owns rjwmapln.dll.
Fix 9: Use System Restore only for broader system damage
System Restore is appropriate when the problem began after a recent software installation, update, cleanup operation, or other system change and a restore point exists.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore may restore application files and registry settings, but it is not a substitute for reinstalling RealPlayer. If the application is obsolete or no longer needed, uninstall it instead.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random DLL website
A file with the right name can still have the wrong version, architecture, dependencies, or provenance. It may also contain malware. A manually downloaded copy often fails because the real problem is the damaged application or a missing dependency.
Use the official RealNetworks installer or its official reinstall instructions instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
rjwmapln.dll is an application plugin, not a Windows component. Copying it into a system directory can create version conflicts and unsafe DLL-loading behavior. Put the file only where the owning application’s installer places it.
Do not run regsvr32 routinely
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that this media import plugin is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.
Do not use:
regsvr32 rjwmapln.dll
as a general repair. If it genuinely applies to a vendor-supplied component, the vendor must provide the exact command, path, and architecture instructions.
Do not enable random Windows Features
Windows Features can add or remove optional Windows components, but enabling one does not recreate a RealNetworks application DLL. Use Settings > System > Optional features only when a specific application or Microsoft instruction identifies a required Windows feature.

If rjwmapln.dll is still not fixed
Collect these details before seeking vendor support:
- The complete error text
- The executable that fails
- The full path where
rjwmapln.dllis expected - Whether the file exists there
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The application version
- Any Windows Security quarantine entry
- Results from DISM and SFC
- Whether the error says the file is missing, rejected, or “not designed to run on Windows”
If reinstalling RealPlayer or RealTimes does not restore normal startup, the remaining issue may be a missing dependency, a blocked file, an incompatible historical build, or a damaged application configuration. At that point, repairing the owning application and identifying the exact executable is more useful than trying additional copies of the DLL.
