fsuipc.dll may appear in messages such as “FSUIPC.DLL was not found,” “The code execution cannot proceed because FSUIPC.DLL is missing,” or “FSUIPC files not found.” You may also see an FSX warning that it detected a problem with third-party add-on software.
The 60-second answer
fsuipc.dll is not a Windows system file. It belongs to the FSUIPC family of flight-simulator integration modules, originally developed by Peter Dowson.

The safest repair is to identify your simulator, download the matching FSUIPC package from the official FSUIPC downloads page at fsuipc.com, and run that installer again. Do not download a standalone DLL or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32.

| FS2004 | FSUIPC3 | FSUIPC.DLL |
| FSX and FSX: Steam Edition | FSUIPC4 | FSUIPC4.DLL in the simulator’s Modules folder |
| Prepar3D 1.4 through 3.4 | FSUIPC4 | 32-bit FSUIPC4.DLL |

| Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 | FSUIPC7 | Primarily an executable-based installation with MSFS configuration |
A program asking for fsuipc.dll may therefore be using an old name for a dependency, expecting FSUIPC4.DLL, or requiring a client-library assembly instead.

Why the error occurs
The common causes are:
- The wrong FSUIPC generation was installed.
- FSUIPC was removed, partially installed, or installed into another simulator directory.
- Antivirus software quarantined a component.
- The simulator cannot load the add-on because of an invalid configuration file.
- FSX is missing a required service pack or SimConnect component.
- A third-party add-on, LINDA module, hardware utility, or .NET client is missing its own FSUIPC dependency.
- The file exists but has the wrong architecture or cannot load.
- The simulator itself has broader configuration or installation damage.
A missing-file message is not the same problem as an FSX trust warning or a crash naming FSUIPC4.dll as the faulting module.
Fix 1: Match FSUIPC to the installed simulator
First identify the simulator that is producing the error. Check the desktop shortcut, Start menu entry, or the application’s About screen. Do not select a package merely because its filename looks similar.
Use the official FSUIPC downloads page and select the package for the simulator:
- FS2004 requires FSUIPC3.
- FSX and FSX:SE require FSUIPC4.
- Prepar3D versions covered by FSUIPC4 require that 32-bit generation.
- Prepar3D 4, 5, and 6 require the supported FSUIPC5 or FSUIPC6 package.
- MSFS 2020 and 2024 require FSUIPC7.
Download the installer, right-click it, select Run as administrator, and allow it to detect the simulator. If more than one simulator is installed, read every selection carefully and install to the affected simulator rather than accepting an unrelated detected path.
After installation, start the simulator and then the add-on that reported the error.
What success looks like
The simulator starts without the missing-file message, and the dependent add-on can connect to simulator data. For FSX, confirm that the expected module exists at:
<FSX>ModulesFSUIPC4.DLL
For FS2004, the expected file is FSUIPC.DLL. Do not rename one generation to imitate another.

Fix 2: Repair FSUIPC7 for MSFS 2020 or 2024
FSUIPC7 does not use the old FSX-style installation model. Do not copy FSUIPC4.DLL into the MSFS installation folder.
- Start MSFS once, wait until it reaches its normal main screen, and exit.
- Download the current supported FSUIPC7 installer from the official FSUIPC site.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Install FSUIPC7 in a simple folder such as:
text
C:FSUIPC7 - Avoid installing it in
Program FilesorDocuments. - Open the installation folder and inspect
InstallFSUIPC7.log. - Start MSFS and check whether FSUIPC7 launches with it.
The installer must locate the correct MSFS UserCfg.opt, Community folder, and EXE.xml. Steam and Microsoft Store installations can use different paths. A missing UserCfg.opt, incorrect %APPDATA% or %LOCALAPPDATA% location, invalid EXE.xml, permissions problem, or antivirus interference can prevent automatic startup.
If EXE.xml is corrupt, preserve its existing add-on entries, rename the file, and run the official installer again so it can create a clean configuration. Do not delete the file without first saving a copy.

FSUIPC7 starts when MSFS starts, the log identifies the intended simulator paths, and the add-on no longer reports that FSUIPC is unavailable. If the log points to a different MSFS installation, correct the path or switch the simulator account installation before reinstalling.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine a simulator add-on after an update or reinstall.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving FSUIPC, the installer, or the simulator’s module or executable folder.
- Do not restore a file solely because its name matches the error.
- Confirm that it came from the official FSUIPC installer and verify its digital signature when available.
- If the file was quarantined and its origin is confirmed, restore it according to your security software’s procedure.
- Re-run the official FSUIPC installer rather than relying on the restored copy.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. If a managed office computer blocks the installer, contact the administrator and provide the installer’s source, detection name, and protection-history entry.
What success looks like
The protection history no longer shows the required component being removed, and the simulator loads FSUIPC after a clean reinstall. If antivirus immediately quarantines it again, leave the file isolated and investigate the detection rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
Fix 4: Verify the simulator configuration
For FSX and older Prepar3D installations, the simulator may use DLL.xml to load add-ons. A damaged or incorrectly edited entry can prevent FSUIPC from loading even when the DLL is present.

- Find
DLL.xmland make a backup copy. - Open the copy with Notepad.
- Check whether the FSUIPC entry points to the intended simulator installation and module file.
- Remove only duplicate or obviously invalid FSUIPC entries.
- Save the file and start the simulator.
Do not replace an entire configuration file with one copied from another computer. Paths and installed add-ons differ.
For MSFS and FSUIPC7, inspect EXE.xml, UserCfg.opt, the Community folder, and InstallFSUIPC7.log instead. The FSUIPC7 installer should normally create or update the required startup entry.
What success looks like
The simulator starts without a third-party add-on warning, and the FSUIPC log records a successful load. If the simulator still reports a trust or loading problem, treat it as a configuration, compatibility, or security issue rather than a simple missing-file problem.
Fix 5: Check FSX service packs and SimConnect
Base FSX installations without the required service packs can have compatibility problems with add-ons. Older FSUIPC support guidance also identifies missing or incompatible SimConnect components as a cause of loading failures.
Check the FSX installation and update history. If the installation is an older boxed release, apply the service-pack level required by the FSUIPC generation and the add-on you are using. Do not install a random SimConnect package from an unofficial archive.
If another add-on provides a Verify files, Repair, or Install SimConnect function, use that function from its official installer. Restart Windows after completing the repair, then test FSX before launching additional utilities.
What success looks like
FSX reaches its main screen, FSUIPC loads, and the add-on connects without a service-pack or SimConnect-related message. If the error changes to a crash naming FSUIPC4.dll, continue with the compatibility and crash checks below rather than repeating the missing-file repair.
Fix 6: Determine which program is reporting the error
The simulator may not be the component that needs repair. LINDA, WideFS, a hardware utility, or a .NET client can report that its expected FSUIPC files are missing.

- The T.A.R.G.E.T software allows you to load and create specific mapping profiles for each game.
Read the complete error window and identify its title. Then:
- Close the simulator and the reporting add-on.
- Open the add-on’s official installer or launcher.
- Select Repair, Verify files, or the equivalent option.
- Confirm that the add-on targets the same simulator installation as FSUIPC.
- Reinstall the add-on if its client files or assemblies are absent.
- Start the simulator first, then launch the dependent utility.
A .NET client may require a client-library assembly rather than a simulator-side DLL. Installing another copy of FSUIPC.DLL will not satisfy that dependency.
What success looks like
The add-on starts after the simulator is running and no longer reports missing FSUIPC files. If only one utility fails while the simulator and other FSUIPC clients work, repair that utility instead of replacing the simulator module.

Fix 7: Check architecture and file placement
FSUIPC4 is a 32-bit module for FSX-era simulators. FSUIPC5, FSUIPC6, and FSUIPC7 are associated with 64-bit simulator environments. Installing a 32-bit component into a 64-bit simulator, or placing a module in an unrelated application directory, can produce load failures.
Check these locations:
- FSX:
<FSX>ModulesFSUIPC4.DLL - FS2004: the simulator’s own module location for
FSUIPC.DLL - P3D: the add-in location selected by the matching FSUIPC installer
- MSFS: the FSUIPC7 installation folder and MSFS startup configuration
Do not copy files between simulator generations. Manual copying is appropriate only from the same official installer or a verified backup for the same simulator and version.

SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a missing third-party FSUIPC module.
Use them when several unrelated applications show system-file failures or Windows itself is unstable:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
bat
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth - Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
bat
sfc /scannow - Restart Windows and test the simulator again.
If DISM reports that it cannot repair the image, record the exact message and resolve Windows servicing problems before relying on SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired files, restart and test. If both commands complete successfully but FSUIPC remains missing, reinstall FSUIPC because Windows repair did not address the third-party module.

Repeatedly hunting through system repairs without knowing which component changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing what it identifies; repairs are performed by the full version. Reinstalling the simulator-matched FSUIPC package remains the definitive fix when this specific add-on file is absent.
Fix 9: Update related drivers and simulator software
A driver is not a substitute for FSUIPC, but outdated simulator peripherals, graphics drivers, or hardware-utility components can cause a dependent add-on to fail after FSUIPC loads.
For a manual driver update:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For a clean graphics-driver repair, download the driver only from the hardware manufacturer or the computer manufacturer, uninstall or replace it according to the vendor’s instructions, and restart.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Manually checking every device is slow and can leave you guessing which driver is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the affected simulator or add-on remains the correct repair for a missing FSUIPC component.
Do not use regsvr32 for FSUIPC
Do not run:
regsvr32 fsuipc.dll
FSUIPC is loaded by the simulator or its installer. It is not normally a COM or ActiveX component that should be registered globally. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; using it on FSUIPC can produce an error without repairing the simulator.
Avoid random DLL download sites
Do not download fsuipc.dll from a generic DLL website. A copied file may contain malware, belong to another FSUIPC generation, use the wrong architecture, or fail because the real problem is DLL.xml, EXE.xml, SimConnect, antivirus quarantine, or the dependent add-on.
Use the official FSUIPC downloads page and the installer supplied for your simulator. Keep the installer and installation log so the repair can be repeated safely.

FAQ
Is fsuipc.dll a Windows file?
No. It belongs to FSUIPC, a flight-simulator add-on and interface. Windows, Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET do not supply the simulator-side FSUIPC module.
Can I rename FSUIPC4.DLL to FSUIPC.DLL?
No. The filename identifies different simulator generations and installation models. Renaming does not change architecture, compatibility, dependencies, or configuration.
Why does the file exist but still fail to load?
The module may target the wrong simulator or architecture, be blocked by antivirus, be referenced by a broken configuration file, or depend on an incompatible service-pack or SimConnect level.
Is FSUIPC7 the same as the old FSX DLL?
No. FSUIPC7 uses an MSFS-specific executable-based installation and startup configuration. It is not repaired by copying the old FSX module into the MSFS folder.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What information should I collect if the problem continues?
Record the simulator and edition, complete error text, FSUIPC generation, installation path, relevant FSUIPC or InstallFSUIPC7.log, configuration-file errors, and antivirus protection history. Also note whether the error comes from the simulator, LINDA, WideFS, a hardware utility, or a .NET client.
