Yes, Google Search has a real Minecraft-themed Easter egg that lets you break through the results page, mine blocks, improve your pickaxe, earn a score, and trigger a Creeper-style exit animation. It was reported around Minecraft’s 15th anniversary in May 2024 and may still appear for some users, although Google can change or remove Search Easter eggs without notice.
It is a short browser interaction—not the official Minecraft game. There is no persistent world, inventory, crafting system, multiplayer, or Minecraft installation involved.

How to activate the Minecraft Google Search Easter egg
- Open Google Search in a current desktop browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and other modern browsers may work.
- Search for Minecraft.
- Wait for the results page to finish loading.
- Look near the lower part of the page for a Minecraft-themed control, usually represented by a grass-block icon.
- Click the icon. On mobile, tap it if it appears.
The control may look different or appear in a different position depending on your screen size, Google interface, browser, region, or account of the Search rollout. Do not assume that a text button such as “Mine Blocks” or “Let’s Play” will always be present; the better-supported description is a grass-block control.

After activation, a Steve-like hand appears on the right side of the page and the pointer becomes a crosshair over interactive areas. Click a highlighted section to break through the Search page. A Minecraft-themed scene then appears behind the damaged area.

You can click the visible foreground blocks to mine them. The experience displays a block-breaking score, turning the interaction into a small challenge rather than a simple animation. The reported sequence includes progressively tougher materials and tool upgrades:
- Begin with the basic mining interaction.
- Mine a log to advance to a wooden pickaxe.
- Mine stone to progress to a stone pickaxe.
- Continue through iron ore and diamond ore.
- Reach ancient debris for a more advanced pickaxe.
This is a scripted Google Search novelty, not Minecraft’s complete survival progression. The reported sequence does not mean that the Easter egg implements normal crafting rules, a full resource economy, or a saved inventory.

How to exit
Use the X at the bottom of the experience to close it. The exit can trigger a Creeper-style animation before returning you to the normal Search page.
If the close control is missing, refresh the results page or use your browser’s Back button.
Does it work on phones?
Mobile availability is inconsistent. Some reports describe the Easter egg appearing in mobile browsers or the Google Search app, while other users have not seen it or have found the interaction difficult to use. The desktop version is generally the clearest way to try it.

On a phone or tablet:
- Open Google Search in a current mobile browser or the Google app.
- Search for Minecraft.
- Look for the grass-block control.
- Tap the control and then tap highlighted areas or blocks.
- If the layout is clipped, try rotating the device or switching to desktop mode.
Changing these settings cannot restore an Easter egg that Google has retired.

A missing grass-block control does not necessarily mean you searched incorrectly. Google may have retired the feature, limited it by region or language, changed the results layout, or excluded your browser or app from the current rollout.
Try these checks:
- Confirm that the search is being performed on Google, not another search provider.
- Search only for Minecraft.
- Use a current desktop browser if possible.
- Wait for the page to load fully, then refresh it once.
- Ensure JavaScript is enabled.
- Temporarily disable strict content blockers or extensions that interfere with scripts and animations.
- Try a private window, another device, or another network.
If it still does not appear, the most likely explanation is that the feature is unavailable for your Search experience or has been removed. Google does not guarantee permanent availability for Search Easter eggs; its own support discussions show that similar interactive features can disappear.

Is this an official Minecraft game?
No. It is a Google Search Easter egg inspired by Minecraft and does not replace Minecraft: Java Edition, Bedrock Edition, or any official trial. It does not let you build, fight, explore a persistent world, play multiplayer, save progress, or access Minecraft servers.
You also do not need to install Minecraft merely to try the Search interaction. A Google account is not normally needed just to use Google Search, although browser settings, cookies, JavaScript, content blockers, and network conditions can affect whether the feature loads.

How to tell whether it is actually working
Seeing a Minecraft knowledge panel, image, or ordinary search result is not proof that the Easter egg is active. A working version should provide most or all of these signs:

- A grass-block or equivalent Minecraft-themed control appears on the results page.
- Clicking it activates the hand and crosshair interaction.
- A section of the page can be mined away.
- Foreground blocks respond to clicks or taps.
- A score or material progression appears.
- An X can close the experience and return to normal Search.
Why instructions may look different
Google can change the button’s location, label, animation, mobile implementation, or availability as it updates Search. Reports have used different names for the control, but those labels should not be treated as universal. If you publish or follow visual instructions, screenshots should be dated and identified by device and browser.
The feature was reported in connection with Minecraft’s 15th anniversary in 2024. Later coverage has described it as still appearing for some users in 2026, but that is not a promise of global or permanent access. Availability can vary by country, language, Google domain, browser, app, and interface experiment.
