It combines an entry-level Quest headset with an Elite Strap, an Xbox Wireless Controller, three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and three months of Meta Horizon+. That makes it attractive to Xbox owners who also want to try standalone VR and cloud gaming.
Its limitations matter just as much: the headset has the same core hardware as the regular Quest 3S, includes only 128GB of storage, and streams Xbox games to a virtual screen rather than running them natively. Buy it near its original $399.99 U.S. launch price only if you will use the Xbox extras. Otherwise, the standard Quest 3S or the sharper, higher-capacity Quest 3 may be a better choice.

The official name is Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. It is a limited-edition Meta Quest 3S created through the Microsoft–Meta partnership—not an Xbox console, an Xbox VR console, or an Xbox-made headset.

The headset works with the normal Meta Quest ecosystem. You can install native Quest VR games, mixed-reality apps, and entertainment software. The Xbox additions are the themed hardware, included accessories, Xbox app integration, and temporary Game Pass Ultimate offer.
Xbox games are delivered through Xbox Cloud Gaming. They are not installed on the headset, and the headset does not turn ordinary Xbox games into native stereoscopic VR experiences.

Package details are listed by Best Buy. Check the specific listing before purchase because promotional codes can have redemption deadlines and eligibility rules. Meta Horizon+ may also appear in promotions for other Quest purchases, so do not treat all of its value as unique to the Xbox Edition.

Is the bundle worth $399.99?
At launch, the bundle was priced at $399.99 in the United States. Android Central estimated roughly $119 in launch-era included extras, based on approximate retail values for the Elite Strap, Xbox controller, Game Pass Ultimate, and Meta Horizon+ subscription.
That is a useful comparison, not a guaranteed saving. Accessory prices, subscription prices, catalogs, regional offers, and trial eligibility can change. The calculation also assumes that you would otherwise buy an Elite Strap and an Xbox controller. If you already own both, much of the bundle’s value disappears.
The strongest case is therefore conditional:
- Good value: you want VR, need an Xbox controller, want a better strap, and can use Game Pass cloud gaming.
- Weak value: you already own an Xbox controller, do not want Game Pass, or would rather spend the money on better optics and more storage.
- Poor value: the limited edition is marked substantially above its launch price.
Xbox Edition versus the regular Quest 3S
The two headsets share the same basic Quest 3S platform. The Xbox Edition does not provide a faster processor, sharper display, better lenses, longer battery life, or higher native VR performance.

The Xbox Edition is the better package if you value its extras. The regular Quest 3S is the better buy when it is meaningfully cheaper, when you already own a compatible controller, or when Game Pass is irrelevant to you.

Xbox Edition versus Quest 3
The Quest 3 is the better headset technically. It uses pancake lenses rather than the Quest 3S’s lower-cost optical design, offers higher-resolution viewing and a wider field of view, and is available with substantially more storage in the cited 512GB configuration.
Those differences are noticeable in menus, text, productivity apps, virtual screens, and long sessions. Pancake lenses provide a larger clear viewing area, so you spend less time moving your head to find the sharp part of the image.
Meta describes Quest 3 as its enthusiast-oriented model, with 4K+ Infinite Display optics and four times the storage of the baseline Quest 3S in its comparison. See Meta’s Quest 3S announcement.
The decision is best expressed this way:
- Quest 3S Xbox Edition: better bundle value.
- Quest 3: better display, optics, field of view, and long-term storage.
If your main goal is occasionally streaming Xbox games to a giant virtual screen, the Xbox Edition may be enough. If you expect to read text, work in virtual environments, play frequently, or keep a large native VR library installed, Quest 3 is easier to justify.

How Xbox Cloud Gaming works on Quest
The Xbox experience is essentially a private giant screen floating in a virtual environment. It is not usually an immersive 3D VR version of the game.
- Charge and set up the Quest headset.
- Connect it to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Sign in with a Meta account and a Microsoft/Xbox account.
- Open or install the Xbox app through the Quest ecosystem if necessary.
- Pair the included Xbox Wireless Controller.
- Choose a cloud-playable game and launch it on the virtual display.
Microsoft lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 among the supported headsets on its Xbox VR headsets page.
An active Game Pass subscription is required for most available cloud games, although Microsoft also identifies exceptions for select free-to-play titles and some games a user owns. Access depends on the specific Game Pass plan, region, catalog, and title.

Before relying on the included offer, check whether:
- your Game Pass plan includes cloud gaming;
- cloud gaming is supported in your country;
- the game you want is cloud playable;
- the promotional code is available to your account;
- recurring billing will begin after the three-month period.
What internet connection does it need?
Microsoft recommends 5GHz Wi-Fi and speeds of at least 20Mbps for the best experience. That recommendation is a baseline, not a guarantee. Latency, Wi-Fi congestion, router placement, local interference, and Microsoft’s service conditions can matter more than raw download speed.
Cloud gaming may perform poorly on hotel, school, apartment, or public networks. A fast connection can still feel bad if latency fluctuates. Competitive games are particularly sensitive to inconsistent delay.

For better results, place the headset near the router, prefer 5GHz Wi-Fi, pause large downloads and video streams, and test the connection at the time you normally play. Ethernet to the router can improve the network feeding the headset, but the headset itself normally still connects wirelessly.
What the Xbox Edition cannot do
- It cannot install Xbox console games locally.
- It does not replace an Xbox Series X or Series S.
- It does not transform console games into native VR games.
- It does not provide every Game Pass title through the cloud.
- It cannot guarantee smooth play on weak or congested Wi-Fi.
- The included Xbox controller does not replace the Quest Touch Plus controllers for native VR.
The Xbox Edition can be used alongside an Xbox console as a separate cloud-gaming device, but the headline feature is streaming through the Xbox app—not a direct living-room console-to-headset VR mode.
Can it play native VR games?
Yes. The Quest 3S supports the Quest software library, mixed-reality apps, and Quest 3-generation games. Meta says it supports thousands of apps and games, including Quest 3/3S exclusives such as Batman: Arkham Shadow.
Keep the two experiences separate:
- Native Quest games run on the headset and use the Touch controllers or other supported input.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming streams conventional games to a flat virtual screen and uses the Xbox controller.
- PC VR requires a capable gaming PC and a wired or wireless PC connection.
Not every Xbox game has a VR mode, and a conventional Xbox game being playable through the cloud does not make it a VR title.

128GB is adequate for trying VR, keeping a rotating selection of games installed, and using cloud gaming. It becomes restrictive for users who want a large permanent library of native Quest games.

Cloud-streamed Xbox games do not consume local storage in the same way as native Quest installations. However, large VR games and updates can take significant space, and storage cannot normally be expanded with a microSD card.

If you expect to play many native VR games, compare the Xbox Edition with a higher-storage Quest 3S configuration or Quest 3. Storage is one of the strongest reasons not to overpay for the limited-edition model.
Is the included Elite Strap comfortable enough?
The Elite Strap is a meaningful upgrade over the basic fabric strap and improves the bundle’s practical value. It is not a guarantee of perfect comfort. Fit depends on head shape, hair, glasses, facial pressure, and session length.
Some users may prefer a battery strap for longer sessions, but the included strap should not be treated as a battery accessory. Do not assume a particular runtime improvement without a manufacturer specification or independent test.
Setup guide
- Charge the headset and install the Meta Horizon mobile app.
- Create or sign in to a Meta account.
- Pair the headset with the app.
- Connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Install system updates.
- Sign in to your Microsoft/Xbox account.
- Open the Xbox app.
- Pair the included Xbox controller.
- Redeem the Game Pass Ultimate offer.
- Test a free-to-play or included cloud title before purchasing anything else.
Review the subscription settings when redeeming the offer. Microsoft says recurring billing is enabled by default and subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. The included period is temporary, and the catalog can change.
If the Xbox app or games do not appear
- Confirm that the headset is a supported Quest model.
- Check whether Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in your region.
- Verify that the correct Microsoft account is signed in.
- Check the Game Pass plan and promotional-code eligibility.
- Update Quest system software and the Xbox app.
- Restart the headset and router.
- Try a 5GHz network close to the router.
- Confirm that the particular game supports cloud play.
Microsoft warns that availability varies by region, plan, platform, and time. A game can leave the catalog or have different access rules without the headset itself being defective.
If streaming quality is poor
- Move closer to the router.
- Use 5GHz instead of congested 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
- Pause downloads, backups, and video streams on the same network.
- Try a less congested wireless channel if you know how to change router settings.
- Test latency and stability, not only download speed.
- Try another game to distinguish a title-specific or server issue.
Meeting the 20Mbps recommendation alone does not guarantee smooth play.
Who should buy it?
Buy the Xbox Edition if:
- you want both standalone VR and Xbox Cloud Gaming;
- you need an Xbox Wireless Controller;
- you would otherwise buy an Elite Strap;
- Game Pass cloud gaming works in your region;
- your Wi-Fi is reliable;
- you are comfortable with 128GB;
- the bundle is close to its $399.99 U.S. launch price.
Buy the regular Quest 3S if:
- you want the lowest-cost route into Quest 3-generation VR;
- you already own an Xbox controller;
- you do not need Game Pass;
- the Xbox Edition is out of stock or marked up;
- a standard model offers better storage value at the current price.
Buy Quest 3 if:
- optical clarity matters;
- you will read text, use productivity apps, or play for long sessions;
- you want a wider field of view and pancake lenses;
- you need more storage;
- you can afford the higher upfront cost.
Buy an Xbox console instead if:
- you mainly want traditional television-based Xbox gaming;
- you have no interest in VR;
- you need local game installation and console performance;
- your internet is unsuitable for cloud gaming.
Choose PC VR instead if:
- you already own a powerful gaming PC;
- you want access to higher-end PC VR software;
- you accept the added cable or wireless-streaming setup.
Verdict
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is a very good VR-and-Game-Pass bundle, not a universally superior Quest headset. Its value comes from the Elite Strap, controller, and temporary subscriptions—not from faster hardware or better visuals.
