fxsearch.dll is an application file associated with FxSearch Search Engine, attributed to NDT Nausedat. It is not a normal Windows component, so the safest fix is usually to identify the program requesting it and repair or reinstall that complete program.

Do not download a replacement DLL from a random website or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32. A replacement can be malicious, incompatible with the application, or unable to fix a missing dependency that caused the message.

What fxsearch.dll is

Available file records describe fxsearch.dll as FxSearch File Search Engine, part of the FxSearch Search Engine application. The file appears to belong beside the program that uses it, not in a Windows system folder.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no reliable evidence that Microsoft ships fxsearch.dll with Windows, DirectX, .NET, Visual C++, or a current driver package. The product also appears historical and poorly documented, and a currently verifiable official NDT Nausedat download page is not available.

That means the filename alone cannot identify the exact application on your PC. The calling program, executable path, and circumstances of the failure matter.

Common messages include:

  • “This application failed to start because fxsearch.dll was not found.”
  • “The file fxsearch.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “A required component is missing: fxsearch.dll.”
  • “Error loading fxsearch.dll.”
  • “The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The procedure entry point could not be located in fxsearch.dll.”
  • “fxsearch.dll is not designed to run on Windows.”

The wording can indicate different problems. A missing-file message usually points to a removed or damaged application file. An entry-point or “not designed to run” message more often indicates a mismatched, corrupt, or incompatible replacement.

Before fixing it, identify the program that needs the file

Do this first. Replacing the file without knowing its parent application is guesswork.

Check the shortcut

  1. Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
  4. Note the executable name and its folder.
  5. Select Open File Location if that button is available.

If the shortcut points to an old utility or search program, that is probably the application that should be repaired. Do not treat the DLL filename as the name of the program itself.

Check the error dialog and Task Manager

If the error appears while another program starts, note the dialog title. You can also:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Processes or Details.
  3. Look for the application that launches when the message appears.
  4. Right-click it and choose Open file location, if available.

Check Event Viewer

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type eventvwr.msc and press Enter.
  3. Expand Windows Logs.
  4. Select Application.
  5. Choose Filter Current Log in the right-hand pane.
  6. Look for an error at the time the program failed.
  7. Read the Faulting application name, Faulting module name, and application path.

Check Reliability Monitor

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type perfmon /rel and press Enter.
  3. Select the day when the problem began.
  4. Open the application failure details.
  5. Record the affected program and the time of the crash.

Also consider what changed immediately beforehand. The file may have disappeared after uninstalling software, running a cleanup utility, restoring a backup, updating an old application, or allowing antivirus software to quarantine it.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the original application

Time needed: 10–30 minutes, plus any download time

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is the most likely and safest fix for fxsearch.dll.

First look for a built-in repair option:

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
  4. Find the program that produced the error.
  5. Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the program on Windows 10.
  6. Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair, if available.
  7. Complete the repair and restart Windows.
  8. Launch the application again.

If there is no repair option:

  1. Save any settings or data belonging to the program.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  3. Select the affected application.
  4. Choose Uninstall.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Reinstall it from its original trusted installer, a known-good backup, or a currently maintained vendor source.
  7. Start the application from its newly installed shortcut.

Do not copy only fxsearch.dll from another computer. The application may require additional files, registry entries, configuration data, or dependencies that are installed together.

If the application was recently removed

An old shortcut can remain after its program has been uninstalled. If the shortcut’s target points to a folder that no longer exists, remove the shortcut instead of trying to restore the DLL.

If another program still needs the old software, reinstall the complete application rather than restoring a single file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you have a backup

Restore the complete application folder from a backup made before the failure. A complete restore is safer than extracting only the DLL because it preserves the matching executable and supporting files.

After restoring, check the file path. It should normally be in the application’s own directory or a related program folder, not in a Windows system directory.

  • 256 GB SSD of storage.
  • Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
  • Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything

Time needed: 5–15 minutes

If the file vanished after a security scan, inspect quarantine history.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Open it.
  3. Select Virus & threat protection.
  4. Select Protection history.
  5. Review detections from the time the application stopped working.
  6. Expand any detection that names the affected application folder or fxsearch.dll.

Do not restore the file automatically. First check:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Whether you recognize the application.
  • Whether the installer came from a trusted source.
  • Whether the DLL is in the expected application directory.
  • Whether the application has a valid publisher or signature.
  • Whether the file was recently downloaded or appeared unexpectedly.

If the program is obsolete, untrusted, or located in a temporary folder, remove it instead of restoring the DLL. If the application is known-good and the detection appears to be a false positive, restore it only through the security product, then reinstall or update the complete application from a trusted source.

A restored DLL does not prove that the application is safe. Scan the installer and the complete program directory before launching it.

Fix 3: Reinstall the complete application for architecture or dependency problems

Time needed: 10–30 minutes

Legacy applications may use older application libraries and may be 32-bit even when Windows is 64-bit. A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows, but it needs the correct files for that application.

Do not place copies of the DLL in both System32 and SysWOW64. Those directories have different architectural roles, and system-folder copying can create conflicts rather than solve them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Instead:

  1. Identify the affected executable using its shortcut or Event Viewer.
  2. Open the executable’s folder.
  3. Right-click the executable and choose Properties.
  4. Check the Details and Compatibility tabs.
  5. Reinstall the application using its original installer.
  6. If the application is very old, right-click its shortcut and choose Properties → Compatibility.
  7. Use the compatibility troubleshooter only if the program has broader launch or display problems.
  8. Test the application again.

If the message says “the specified module could not be found” even though fxsearch.dll is present, another dependency may be missing. Reinstalling the complete application is more reliable than collecting individual DLLs.

Only reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ if the message also names a Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll. The Visual C++ package is not a source for fxsearch.dll.

Fix 4: Remove an untrusted replacement and reinstall the parent program

Time needed: 10–20 minutes

If you already copied fxsearch.dll from another computer or download source and now see an entry-point error, a “not designed to run on Windows” message, or an immediate crash, do not keep trying different copies.

  1. Close the affected application.
  2. Open the application’s installation folder.
  3. Identify the replacement DLL you added.
  4. If possible, uninstall the application normally.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Reinstall the complete application from the original trusted installer or restore it from a known-good backup.
  7. Check that the application now uses its own files.

A file with the right name can still be the wrong build, damaged, or modified. Metadata reported by file indexes should not be treated as proof that an individual copy is authentic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 5: Run DISM and System File Checker when Windows itself is damaged

Time needed: 15–30 minutes

fxsearch.dll is reported as a third-party application file, so DISM and SFC normally will not recreate it. Use these commands when Windows has broader symptoms, such as damaged built-in apps, update failures, unexplained system errors, or when reinstalling the parent application did not resolve related Windows problems.

First install pending Windows updates:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Select Check for updates.
  4. Install available updates.
  5. Restart Windows.

Then run DISM followed by SFC:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to complete.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows and test the application.

DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is a substitute for reinstalling the program that owns fxsearch.dll.

Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while the application remains incomplete. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds, while repairs are performed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix for this file.

Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 unless the application specifically requires registration

Time needed: 5 minutes

regsvr32 is for DLLs that support self-registration, typically COM or OLE components exposing a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary application library does not necessarily support that process.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Rank #3

For fxsearch.dll, registration is not a general repair. Running a command such as this can produce another error:

regsvr32 fxsearch.dll

If Windows reports that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found, the DLL does not support the registration operation you attempted. It does not mean that you need another copy or another system folder.

Use regsvr32 only when the original application’s documentation specifically instructs you to register this file. Otherwise, restore the application through repair, reinstall, or backup.

Fix 7: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the evidence points to a driver

Time needed: 15–30 minutes

A graphics, printer, storage, or chipset driver is not a normal source of fxsearch.dll. Do not reinstall drivers merely because a DLL message appears.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider a driver update only if:

  • Device Manager shows a warning icon.
  • The application interacts directly with a device.
  • Event Viewer identifies a driver failure.
  • The program began failing immediately after a driver change.

To check Device Manager:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant device category.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Review the General tab for an error.
  7. Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
  8. Use Update Driver only with a driver from the device manufacturer or Windows Update.
  9. Restart Windows and test the application.

Do not use Device Manager to search randomly for fxsearch.dll. Drivers do not replace an application DLL.

Manually hunting through many driver packages can make it difficult to tell which change helped. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing which drivers it identifies, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional, and it will not replace the original application repair when FxSearch is the caller.

Fix 8: Check Windows Features only for a clearly related legacy component

Time needed: 5–15 minutes

Windows Features can help with some older programs, but it is not a direct source for fxsearch.dll.

If the application documentation says it requires a Windows optional component:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type optionalfeatures and press Enter.
  3. Review the listed features.
  4. Enable only the component the application actually requires.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Restart Windows if prompted.
  7. Test the application.

Do not enable unrelated features in the hope that one will supply this file. If the application has no documented Windows feature requirement, return to repairing or reinstalling the application.

Fix 9: Scan for a suspicious or modified DLL

Time needed: 10–30 minutes

A copy of fxsearch.dll in an unexpected location deserves caution. Examples include a temporary directory, a random folder under a user profile, or an unrelated program directory.

  1. Right-click the suspicious file.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Check General for its location.
  4. Review the Details tab.
  5. Check the Digital Signatures tab if present.
  6. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
  7. Run a Quick scan.
  8. Use a fuller scan if the file appeared unexpectedly or other symptoms are present.

Do not whitelist the file simply because deleting it stops an error. Identify the executable loading it and decide whether the complete program should be removed.

Causes of fxsearch.dll errors

Likely cause What usually helps
The parent application was partially uninstalled Repair or reinstall that application
An installer or cleanup process removed the file Restore the complete program from a trusted source
Antivirus quarantined the file Verify the program, review Protection history, then restore only if safe
A mismatched DLL was copied into the folder Remove it and reinstall the complete application
A dependency is missing Reinstall the application and check any separately named runtime
Windows has broader component corruption Run DISM, then SFC
The file is in an unexpected location Scan it and investigate the calling executable
A legacy program is incompatible with current Windows Restore from backup, use an isolated legacy environment, or replace the program

What not to do

Do not download a standalone DLL

Random DLL download sources can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong architecture, or a version that does not match the application. Even a clean replacement may leave the real dependency problem unresolved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The safe sources are:

  • The original application installer.
  • A known-good backup of the complete application.
  • A legitimate vendor archive, if one is available.
  • A maintained replacement application when the original software is no longer obtainable.

Do not copy it into Windows system folders

Application DLLs should normally stay with the application that loads them. Copying a legacy file into System32 or SysWOW64 can cause version conflicts, permission problems, and security exposure.

Do not edit the registry to create a DLL path

A registry path does not repair a missing application file and can make future uninstall or repair operations harder.

If the error names another DLL afterward

That usually means fxsearch.dll was only one missing file or that the application has several damaged dependencies.

Record the new filename and the exact message. Then:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm that the application was reinstalled completely.
  2. Check the application’s own installation or log folder.
  3. Determine whether the new file is a Microsoft runtime, a driver component, or another application file.
  4. Repair the relevant package rather than downloading files individually.

A chain of different missing-DLL messages is a strong reason to reinstall the parent application from scratch or restore a complete backup.

If no installer is available

If the original application can no longer be obtained, the safest choices are:

  • Restore the entire application directory from a known-good backup.
  • Run the old program in an isolated legacy environment.
  • Replace it with a maintained alternative.
  • Remove the obsolete application if it is not essential.

A standalone fxsearch.dll cannot establish that the rest of the old application is complete, compatible, or safe.

FAQ

Is fxsearch.dll part of Windows?

No reliable evidence identifies it as a standard Windows file. It is associated with FxSearch Search Engine and NDT Nausedat.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which program installed fxsearch.dll?

The filename alone cannot identify the specific program on your computer. Use the shortcut target, Event Viewer, Reliability Monitor, or the folder containing the executable that requests it.

Should I download fxsearch.dll?

No. Restore it through the original application’s installer, repair process, or a known-good complete backup.

Should I run regsvr32 fxsearch.dll?

Usually not. Registration applies only to self-registering DLLs, and there is no general reason to register this application library.

Will SFC restore fxsearch.dll?

Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while fxsearch.dll is a third-party application file. Run SFC only as a secondary check when Windows has broader problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need to install Visual C++?

Only if the error also names a missing Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll. Visual C++ does not directly provide fxsearch.dll.

Can this file work on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Compatibility cannot be assumed for a historical application library. Reinstall the complete program and test it in its original application context. If it still fails, use a backup in an isolated legacy environment or replace the obsolete program.

What if the file is found in System32?

Do not assume that location is correct. Identify the executable loading it, scan the file, and reinstall the owning application rather than copying or registering more DLLs.
