Game Freak said unauthorized access to one of its servers in August 2024 led to the exposure of 2,606 records containing names and company email addresses. In a notice dated October 10, the Pokémon developer said the affected people included employees, contractors and former employees, and described how it was contacting them and responding to the incident.
What Game Freak confirmed
Game Freak’s October 10, 2024 notice says a third party accessed a server without authorization in August. The company later discovered that personal information had been exposed.

The notice identifies 2,606 affected records. The information involved names and company email addresses belonging to employees and others, including contracted workers and former employees. Game Freak’s statement does not identify a named individual as the source of the notice.
What the company said about its response
Game Freak said it was contacting affected people individually. If it could not reach someone directly, it said it would provide notice and a hotline for inquiries.

The company also said it had rebuilt and reinspected its servers and would further strengthen security measures. Those are the actions and plans described in the October notice; the statement does not independently verify later remediation or say whether the hotline remains active.
Game Freak’s notice apologized: “We sincerely apologize for the great inconvenience and concern caused to all concerned parties.”

How the incident relates to reports of other leaked material
Reports published on October 14 described other internal development material circulating online. Le Monde, The Record and Game Developer provided contemporaneous coverage of wider leak claims.
That reporting is distinct from what Game Freak’s notice confirms. The notice establishes exposure of personal information; it does not authenticate or detail the other material described in those reports. Claims about such material should therefore be attributed to the reporting, not treated as confirmed by the company.
