Pokémon GO Players Report a Surprise Storage Increase, but Details Aren’t Confirmed

Players reported higher Pokémon GO storage limits in 2026, but no official confirmation establishes the amount, eligibility or rollout. Here’s what is known and how to manage each inventory.

Some Pokémon GO players reported seeing higher Pokémon and Item Bag storage limits in 2026, but the exact increase, rollout date and eligibility have not been confirmed in an official announcement located for this article. Treat the reported “another 500” as community discussion—not a universal new cap. Your displayed maximum may also differ from another player’s because level bonuses can affect comparisons.

What players reported—and what is confirmed

In June 2026, a player said they had noticed increases to Pokémon storage and their inventory, and asked whether the change had been announced. A July discussion described another 500-slot expansion, while participants debated how level-based bonuses affect individual totals. These are individual community reports, not an official confirmation or a representative survey.

The latest precise official increase in the available announcements is historical: in December 2024, the Pokémon GO team said it had added 500 slots to each limit, bringing Pokémon storage to 9,300 and Item Bag capacity to 8,300 at that time. Those figures should not be treated as the current maximum or as confirmation of the reported 2026 change.

Pokémon storage and Item Bag are different

Pokémon storage holds caught Pokémon; the Item Bag holds items. Increasing one does not mean the other has increased, so check both displayed limits in your game rather than inferring one from the other.

Inventory What it holds What frees space Upgrade information established by official sources
Pokémon storage Pokémon Transfer Pokémon to Professor Willow. Pokémon Storage upgrades are listed as digital items in the official store; the increment per upgrade is not stated in the cited support information.
Item Bag Items Use or discard items. The Help Center says each upgrade adds 50 capacity. Gifts and Stickers do not count toward the maximum.

What to do if an inventory is full

  • If Pokémon storage is full: transfer Pokémon you no longer want to keep to Professor Willow, or check the in-game Shop for Pokémon Storage upgrades.
  • If the Item Bag is full: use or discard items, or check the in-game Shop for Item Bag upgrades. A full Item Bag can prevent collecting items from PokéStops, Gyms, and certain battle rewards.

Pokémon GO’s Help Center says the default Item Bag holds 350 items and that upgrades add 50 capacity each. Gifts and Stickers are examples of things that do not count toward that limit. Because limits and bonuses can change, the default figure is not a reliable estimate of every player’s present maximum.

How to check whether your limit changed

  1. Open your Pokémon storage and note the displayed capacity, then check the Item Bag capacity separately.
  2. Compare each number with your own earlier figure, if you recorded it. Do not use another player’s maximum as a direct comparison: level bonuses and individual totals can complicate the comparison.
  3. If you want more space, use the in-game Shop to view the available Pokémon Storage and Item Bag upgrades. These are digital game items; a physical accessory cannot increase either limit.

What remains unverified about the 2026 reports

The available player discussions do not establish an official announcement, the precise amount of any 2026 increase, who is eligible, or when a change reached players. Until an official Pokémon GO notice confirms those details, the reports are best understood as observations that some players made—not evidence that every account received the same increase.
