If you want open-world action and a character build that shapes how you fight, try Elden Ring. If you want a more story-led adventure about hunting monsters and making consequential choices, choose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Neither is a direct replacement for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s customizable Pawn companion system, so the best pick depends on which part of the game you want to keep.
What makes Dragon’s Dogma 2 different?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 combines action combat with vocation-based character development and an AI companion party. Capcom’s manual describes four starting vocations—fighter, mage, archer, and thief—each with its own playstyle, strengths, and weaknesses. PlayStation describes customization for both the Arisen and the main Pawn, while Steam presents the game as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG in which the main Pawn accompanies the player.

Elden Ring is the closer choice if your favorite parts of Dragon’s Dogma 2 are roaming a fantasy world and shaping your approach through combat choices. Bandai Namco describes it as an open-world action RPG centered on a player-created character, with weapons, magical abilities, skills, and exploration.

It is not a substitute for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s companion-party dynamic: Bandai Namco lists single-player and online multiplayer modes, but its official description does not present a main Pawn who travels alongside you. Pick it for exploration and action combat rather than for the same party-management experience.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt suits players who want a stronger narrative focus, a monster-hunter protagonist, and choices that can affect allies, enemies, and the wider world. CD PROJEKT RED describes Geralt preparing for hunts with potions and blade oils, giving the adventure a different emphasis from Dragon’s Dogma 2’s vocation-led combat and Pawn party.

The announcement lists Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That is Capcom’s scheduled date; it does not by itself confirm that the game is available on a storefront.
