Dungeon Munchies makes food part of your build: hunt creatures, cook their ingredients, and choose meals that change your abilities and play style. If you want another game that ties dungeon combat to food, Cuisineer is the closest match supported by the official descriptions reviewed here. It shares the loop of fighting through dungeons and gathering ingredients, but sends you home to run a restaurant instead of centering meals on your combat loadout.

What makes a game like Dungeon Munchies?

The key is more than a cooking animation between fights. In Dungeon Munchies, food connects exploration, combat, and character-building: you hunt creatures, prepare dishes, then choose what to eat for its effect on your abilities. PlayStation describes it as a side-scrolling action RPG and says, “The combination of dishes you choose to eat will impact your entire play style.” PlayStation’s Dungeon Munchies page describes that meal-based build system.

Nintendo’s UK listing specifies room for seven dishes, making meal selection a limited loadout choice. Parts you do not eat can instead become weapons: Nintendo’s description says, “Craft all kinds of deadly weapons out of the animal and plant parts you can’t eat.” Nintendo’s Switch page gives the crafting detail. These are the most useful comparison points when deciding whether another food-themed action game will scratch the same itch.

The closest match: Cuisineer

Cuisineer brings together action combat, dungeon exploration, ingredient gathering, and cooking. You play as Pom, a young adventurer who fights monsters in roguelite dungeon expeditions, gathers ingredients, then returns to cook and serve food in a restaurant. Marvelous describes it as a food-focused action roguelite; its feature page lists procedurally generated biomes, elemental combat effects, distinct cooking utensils and gourmet gear, and over 100 recipes. The recipe count is a feature claim from the publisher, not an independently measured statistic. See the Marvelous Europe overview and XSEED Games overview.

#1 Best Overall
Dungeon Munchies Physical Edition - Nintendo Switch
  • Hours of anime-inspired action adventure set over 9 fantastical worlds.
  • Hundreds of ingredients, items, recipes, weapons and combinations to build your own custom skillset.
  • 3 difficulty levels - Apprentice to Executive Chef – to make the game accessible to everyone.
  • Deep story full of strange characters, dark humor, and plot twists! Over 40 original tracks, composed by rAYE.
  • Languages - English, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese in-game text.

How its food loop differs

In Dungeon Munchies, selected dishes directly shape your combat build. In Cuisineer, ingredients gathered on runs primarily feed cooking and restaurant operations; customers, dishes, and the dining room become part of what you do between expeditions. Food and its effects also color combat, but the central progression rhythm is dungeon run, gather, return, and serve. Choose it if you want food gathering to lead into a business-management loop as well as more dungeon fights—not if you specifically want the seven-meal ability loadout.

Platforms and release dates

Marvelous and XSEED list Cuisineer for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher pages give 9 November 2023 as the PC release date and 28 January 2025 as the console release date. These are publisher-listed platforms and dates; check your regional store for current availability before buying.

  • Big Menu for a Big Stomach - With a stomach that can only take seven dishes, you must put together a meal that maximises your abilities. Guava juice, grilled shrimp, or crab stirfry may mean the difference between health recovery, damage output or a watery shield!
  • Tools of the Trade - Craft all kinds of deadly weapons out of the animal and plant parts you can’t eat. Pair them with your favorite dishes to create the most overpowered combat combo!
  • Farm-fresh & Locally-sourced - In this day and age, ingredients are hard to come by. Be prepared to face off electriacl snails, razor-sharp shrimp claws, and laser wasps to get the delicious parts you need!
  • Something Doesn’t Feel Right… - From the self-professed-AAA-license-holding necro-chef, to the diabolical voodoo “Lord of the Forest”, to the radical revolutionaries of the fruit revolution, everyone wants you to do their thing, but no one’s really right in the head.
