If you want another Zelda adventure, start with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening or The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom—but both use a top-down perspective rather than Ocarina of Time’s 3D view. For exploration, secrets, puzzles, and connected spaces outside the series, try TUNIC. It is isometric, and its combat is described as technical, so it is an adjacent choice rather than a direct substitute.

- Another Zelda: Choose Link’s Awakening or Echoes of Wisdom if series continuity matters most.
- Exploration and discovery: Consider TUNIC for interconnected areas, secrets, puzzles, and bosses.
- A similar camera and 3D structure: None of these three recommendations preserves Ocarina’s 3D presentation; the two Zelda picks are top-down, and TUNIC is isometric.
- A particular puzzle-combat balance: Consider whether you want creative item use and environmental problem-solving, or are comfortable with more technical combat.
Nintendo’s Zelda series overview lists games in the series and notes that the timeline branches after Ocarina of Time. That context can help if you are looking for series continuity, but it does not make any one entry a direct gameplay match.
Stay with Zelda: two top-down options
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
The Nintendo Switch version is a faithful rebuild in a new art style, set on the reimagined Koholint Island. It is a good fit if you want another Zelda adventure and are happy to trade Ocarina’s broad 3D world for a smaller island setting and top-down play. Nintendo’s Link’s Awakening page confirms physical and digital versions.
#1 Best Overall
- This is the world edition. It has different packaging but is fully authentic and works on US region 3DS systems.
- The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest - a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons.
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.
- “E10+”, w/Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence, Suggestive Themes
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
This newer Zelda adventure puts Princess Zelda in the lead. She creates echoes of monsters she has encountered to help her, and the game also features a temporary swordfighter form. Its top-down presentation and echo-based mechanics make it a different kind of Zelda game from Ocarina of Time, but it suits players interested in experimenting with abilities and objects. See Nintendo’s Echoes of Wisdom page for its official feature description.
Leave the series for exploration: TUNIC
TUNIC is an isometric action game set across connected forests, ruins, and catacombs. Its Nintendo listing highlights bosses, hidden treasures, secrets, puzzles, and manual pages that reveal maps and tips. Those details make it a strong adjacent pick if your favorite part of Ocarina of Time is exploring unfamiliar spaces and working out what they conceal.
It is not a one-to-one replacement: the camera is isometric, and Nintendo describes its combat as varied and technical. The Nintendo Switch listing is for a digital edition. PlayStation lists the game for PS4 and PS5 on its official TUNIC page. Check the platform, edition, region, and current availability before buying.

| Game | Best fit | Perspective and key difference |
|---|---|---|
| Link’s Awakening | You want another Zelda and a contained island adventure. | Top-down; Nintendo describes the Switch version as a faithful rebuild in a new art style. |
| Echoes of Wisdom | You want a newer Zelda adventure built around Zelda and creative use of echoes. | Top-down; echoes and a temporary swordfighter form differ from Ocarina’s 3D structure. |
| TUNIC | You want connected exploration, secrets, puzzles, and bosses outside Zelda. | Isometric; its listing describes technical combat. |
These are three useful directions, not a definitive ranking of every game that resembles Ocarina of Time. Choose based on whether you value Zelda continuity, a particular perspective, exploration, puzzles, or combat most.
