If you want another game to settle into after Red Dead Redemption 2, start with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II for grounded historical role-play and a world that responds to Henry’s actions. Choose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for fantasy quests, or Cyberpunk 2077 for a dense futuristic city. None of the cited sources establishes that these games reproduce RDR2’s lifelike NPC behavior, so the best match depends on which part of its immersion matters most to you.
Which game is the closest match to RDR2?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the strongest fit if you want a less fantastical, historical setting and role-play shaped by your choices. Deep Silver describes it as an open-world medieval game and says, “Your actions shape Henry’s Destiny and how the world reacts to him.” That is a publisher claim about world response, not proof that its NPC simulation works like RDR2’s.

If your favorite part of RDR2 is instead the abundance of quests and places to explore, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a better direction. For a futuristic urban setting, consider Cyberpunk 2077. Both change the kind of world you inhabit, and neither should be treated as a confirmed match for RDR2’s NPC behavior.

| Game | Best fit | What the cited sources support | How it differs from RDR2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kingdom Come: Deliverance II | Grounded historical role-play | Deep Silver describes a medieval open world, historically framed combat and skill development, and says Henry’s actions shape how the world reacts. Deep Silver’s official game page | It is a medieval setting rather than a Western one. The publisher’s statement supports world reactivity in general, not a specific comparison of NPC behavior with RDR2. |
| The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | Quest-driven fantasy | The official page describes a remastered open-world RPG and notes improved NPC and environment textures, alongside combat and skill-system updates. CD PROJEKT RED’s official game page | Its fantasy setting, magic, and gear progression differ from RDR2’s Western realism. Texture improvements indicate visual detail, not lifelike NPC decision-making; GameSpot’s comparison also distinguishes the games by fantasy and realism. GameSpot’s comparison |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Futuristic urban exploration | CD PROJEKT RED calls it an open-world role-playing game set in a future city; PlayStation describes Night City as a bustling metropolis. CD PROJEKT RED · PlayStation’s open-world game list | A bustling city description does not establish advanced or RDR2-like NPC behavior. The setting is science fiction rather than historical realism. |
| Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei | Historical action and scenic exploration | PlayStation includes both in its open-world game list. It describes Ghost of Yōtei as a standalone story set in 1600s rural Japan. PlayStation’s open-world game list | The cited descriptions establish setting and open-world framing, but provide less evidence about NPC simulation or systemic interactivity. |
Choose by the part of RDR2 you want more of
A world that responds to your role-play
Pick Kingdom Come: Deliverance II if your priority is inhabiting a grounded historical world and seeing choices matter. Its publisher specifically says Henry’s actions affect how the world reacts. The available evidence does not say how that response compares in depth or realism with RDR2’s NPC routines.
#1 Best Overall
- From the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption
- The deepest and most complex world Rockstar Games has ever created
- Covers a huge range of 19th century American landscapes
- Play as Arthur Morgan, lead enforcer in the notorious Van der Linde gang
- Interact with every character in the world with more than just your gun;Engage in conversation with people you meet. Your actions influence Arthur's honour;Horses are a cowboy's best friend, both transport and personal companion;Bond with your horse as you ride together to unlock new abilities
Long-form quests in a different kind of world
Pick The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if you are happy to trade the Old West for a fantasy setting with magic and gear progression. Its official remaster description points to improved NPC and environment textures, which is relevant to presentation but should not be confused with proof of more lifelike behavior.
A dense city instead of open countryside
Pick Cyberpunk 2077 if a futuristic metropolis sounds more appealing than rural landscapes. Its publisher frames it as an open-world RPG, and PlayStation presents Night City as bustling. Those descriptions support the setting and genre, not a claim that the city’s residents behave as realistically as RDR2’s.

- From the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption

Historical action and landscapes
Consider Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost of Yōtei if what you want is historical action-adventure and scenic exploration. The available official descriptions are more useful for establishing their settings and open-world category than for assessing NPC behavior. Ghost of Yōtei is described by PlayStation as a standalone story set in 1600s rural Japan.

What “immersive like RDR2” can—and cannot—mean
Immersion can come from different things: a world that reacts to choices, richly presented environments, memorable quests, or a setting you want to explore. The evidence available for these games supports different pieces of that picture, not a single overall ranking of immersion. In particular, a detailed texture, a bustling-city description, and a publisher statement about world response are not interchangeable evidence of lifelike NPC behavior.

GameSpot’s comparison gives a useful high-level distinction: The Witcher 3 leans into fantasy, magic, and gear progression, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance is framed around realism and immersive mechanics. That helps explain why the latter is the nearer tonal fit for players seeking grounded historical role-play, while the former may suit those whose priority is a large quest-led adventure.
