What makes a game similar to The First Descendant?
The useful comparison is more specific than “sci-fi shooter.” Steam describes The First Descendant as a free-to-play, multiplayer, third-person game with co-op, PvE, customization and looter-shooter/action-RPG elements. Nexon’s 2 July 2024 launch announcement likewise describes it as a free-to-play, third-person co-op action RPG shooter. Those features point to five questions: Do you want third-person aiming? Do you want to play with a squad? How much do character abilities and builds shape combat? Is collecting and improving gear a major draw? Does free-to-play access matter?

Warframe: the closest overall match
Choose Warframe first if you want to stay in third person while playing a free action shooter built around distinct characters, abilities, weapons and co-op. Its official site describes customizable Warframes with different abilities, weapon collecting and upgrades, open-world areas, and cross-platform play.

The overlap is strongest in camera perspective, character customization, squad play and collection. The feel is not identical: Warframe emphasizes parkour movement and a broad arsenal, and its progression has its own identity. Treat it as a close alternative, not a clone. The official site lists PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and iOS; check the live page for current platform and cross-play details.

Destiny 2 suits players who care more about sci-fi shooting, co-op activities and gear than matching The First Descendant’s camera. Bungie describes it as a “SCI-FI ACTION SHOOTER” with a shared world, solo and co-op activities, strikes and raids, character classes and subclasses, abilities, weapons, armor and mods. Bungie says the game can be played for free.

The key difference is perspective: Bungie Help classifies Destiny 2 as a first-person shooter, whereas The First Descendant is third person. - Want a third-person camera? Start with Warframe; Destiny 2 is first person.
- Want ability-led character variety and collecting? Warframe’s distinct frames and weapons make it the more direct match.
- Want shared-world group activities? Destiny 2 offers co-op activities such as strikes and raids, alongside solo play.
- Need a free-to-play starting point? Both games are described by their official sites as free to play. Check each game’s current content and access details before assuming a particular expansion, activity or platform is included.
