Gamescom 2024 brought together a major livestream showcase and a five-day show in Cologne. Opening Night Live on August 20 delivered a surprise Borderlands 4 reveal, a release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and fresh Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign footage. The fair itself ran August 21–25, with playable games and additional broadcasts. Here are notable announcements and show-floor highlights—not an objective ranking or a complete announcement list.
Gamescom 2024 was more than Opening Night Live
Opening Night Live was the opening showcase, not the whole event. The in-person Gamescom trade fair and consumer show took place in Cologne, Germany, August 21–25, according to Xbox’s event guide. The show combined announcements and trailers with exhibitor booths, hands-on demos, and live programming.
The organizer’s final report says Gamescom 2024 drew 335,000 visitors from around 120 countries. It also reported 1,462 exhibitors from 64 countries, more than 32,000 trade visitors, and around 230,000 square metres of gross exhibition space. These are organizer-reported event figures. The report separately counted more than 80,000 visitors at the Gamescom city festival; that figure is not part of the show-floor attendance.
For online reach, the organizer reported more than 310 million video views for the show programme and over 40 million views for Opening Night Live, both measured by Saturday evening. Those are video-view counts, not a stated number of unique viewers. Gamescom is jointly organized by Koelnmesse and game – The German Games Industry Association. In its final report, Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse described the event as having “unmatched global reach”; that is an organizer’s promotional assessment, rather than an independent ranking.

The biggest Opening Night Live announcements
Borderlands 4 arrived as a surprise reveal
Borderlands 4 was a surprise teaser reveal and the first announcement in the main Opening Night Live showcase, according to the Epic Games Store roundup. The brief imagery showed a cracked planet, fire, and a mechanical hand picking up a Borderlands mask. It was a teaser, not a gameplay demonstration. GameSpot reported a 2025 release window at the time; that was the announcement-era window, not a current release prediction.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle received a release date
Xbox’s Opening Night Live recap announced that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would launch December 9, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. The recap also said it would be available day one through Game Pass and described early access tied to certain editions. These were details announced in 2024, not a statement of the game’s present availability. Xbox described it as a single-player, first-person adventure and also highlighted a Collector’s Edition.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 showed campaign gameplay
Xbox listed campaign gameplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 among the showcase’s major news. That made this an update to an already announced game, rather than a new reveal. The cited event recap establishes that campaign footage was shown; it does not provide further platform or schedule detail here.
Towerborne announced early access
Xbox also highlighted an early-access announcement for Towerborne. That offered a route to play before a full release, but the event recap’s announcement alone does not establish the precise schedule or other access conditions.

Other updates included Diablo IV and Starfield: Shattered Space
Xbox’s recap also pointed to updates on Diablo IV and Starfield: Shattered Space. Taken together, the showcase mixed first looks and surprise reveals with new footage, release information, and updates to games already on players’ radar.
Other trailers and announcements worth noting
Roundups from Epic Games Store and GameSpot covered additional third-party news. These are selections from those outlets, not an official or exhaustive Gamescom announcement ledger.

- InZoi, Sniper Elite: Resistance, and Squid Game: Unleashed: GameSpot included these among its broader selection of showcase news.
- Genshin Impact and Naraka: Bladepoint: GameSpot reported an Xbox announcement and Natlan update news for Genshin Impact, and a planned Lara Croft appearance in Naraka: Bladepoint.
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: GameSpot covered release-date news. Its date and other release windows are contemporaneous 2024 reporting, not current scheduling information.
Epic’s roundup also noted that Black Myth: Wukong had released on the Epic Games Store on August 19, just before Gamescom. That was a timely storefront note, rather than a Gamescom reveal.

The show floor offered a different way to engage with games than watching a trailer. Xbox’s Gamescom guide said its Hall 7 booth would have over 50 games across more than 240 stations. That was Xbox’s booth plan, not the total number of Gamescom games or stations.

The guide also named partner games at the booth, including Star Wars Outlaws, Space Marine 2, Atomfall, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, alongside indie selections. This is an Xbox-curated sample, not a complete Gamescom lineup.
Xbox planned daily show-floor broadcasts for August 21–23 and theater presentations for Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Starfield: Shattered Space. Its guide also mentioned an Xbox Gear Shop and official online gear stores.
How to make sense of the announcements
There was no official “best announcement” award in the cited coverage. Which story mattered most depended on whether you wanted a new reveal, a firm date, footage, or something to play at the fair.
