PC Guide reported on October 6, 2026, that GameStop listed a pre-owned digital PS5 Pro for $1,399.99—$500 more than the $899.99 new-console price cited in the same report. The outlet said the pre-owned console was not in stock online when it checked, so the listing is a dated asking price, not proof that a buyer could place an order or that anyone paid that amount.
What prices did the report find?
PC Guide’s October 6, 2026 report described these GameStop prices:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
PlayStation 5 Pro with 2TB SSD Storage, Console Only - PS5 Pro Gaming System, White (Renewed) | $1,499.49 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
PlayStation®5 Digital Edition (slim) | $598.98 | Buy on Amazon |
| Listing described by PC Guide | Reported price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-owned digital PS5 Pro | $1,399.99 | Dated asking price; the report said it was not in stock online when checked. |
| Pre-owned digital PS5 Pro, GameStop Pro member price | $1,329.99 | Member price reported for the digital listing; availability was not established. |
| Pre-owned PS5 Pro with disc drive attachment | $1,499.99 | Different configuration from the digital listing; the report said the refurbished model was not in stock online when checked. |
| New PS5 Pro | $899.99 | Price cited by PC Guide on October 6, 2026; check a live listing and configuration before comparing. |
PC Guide’s report is the source for these figures. They are reported listing prices, not confirmed transaction prices, and retailer listings can change. The $899.99 comparison is only useful when the new and pre-owned offers match on configuration and are actually available to buy.
Is GameStop really selling a used PS5 Pro for more than a new one?
The report describes a pre-owned digital listing at $1,399.99 and a new PS5 Pro price of $899.99, so the listed used price was higher by $500. But PC Guide said the pre-owned console was not in stock online when it checked. That makes “listed above the cited new price” more precise than saying GameStop completed a sale at that amount.

Before comparing prices, check whether each offer is for the digital or disc-equipped setup, whether a member price applies, and whether the item is in stock. Also compare the seller’s current condition description and return terms; the cited report does not establish those terms for this listing.
What does “intentional” price hike mean?
PC Guide reported that a GameStop employee memo described the higher used price as intentional. That characterization comes from the report’s reproduction and attribution of the memo; it is not a directly authenticated public statement from GameStop in the evidence available here. The memo attribution does not explain why the price was set, so claims that a particular supply, demand, or cost factor caused the move would go beyond what is established.
Read PC Guide’s account of the memo for the reported wording and context.
Is the $1,399 PS5 Pro in stock?
PC Guide said it could not find the refurbished console in stock online when it checked on October 6, 2026. That is a time-specific availability report, not a guarantee about the listing today. Check GameStop’s live page directly before making plans to buy; its official PS5 Pro product page confirms the product listing exists but does not verify the reported pre-owned price.

What does the PS5 Pro offer?
Sony lists a 2TB built-in SSD, Wi-Fi 7 support with a compatible router, and support for PS5 games and more than 8,500 PS4 games. It highlights PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), advanced ray tracing, and higher frame rates on compatible games. Sony cautions that enhancements vary by game and that a small number of PS4 games are incompatible. These features describe the console; they do not establish that the reported pre-owned listing is good value.
On its product page, Sony quotes Naughty Dog Lead Programmer Vincent Marxen describing a PS5 Pro-specific enhanced rendering mode for The Last of Us Part II Remastered: it renders at 1440p, upscales to 4K using PSSR, and targets 60 fps. That is a developer statement displayed by Sony, not an independent test result. Sony’s broader description of sharper 4K image quality and high-frame-rate gameplay is promotional language, and actual results depend on the game.
Sony’s PS5 Pro product page also identifies the included DualSense controller and compatibility with accessories such as DualSense Edge.
