What is GANG OF DRAGON about?
Nagoshi Studio introduced GANG OF DRAGON as an action-adventure game set in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo’s nightlife district. Its protagonist, Shin Ji-seong, is a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate based there. Actor Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, portrays him. Toshihiro Nagoshi leads the scenario and overall direction, according to the studio’s December 12, 2025 announcement.
The studio’s premise centers on the lives of outlaws in Kabukicho and describes the game as a new human drama. That is the announced setup, not a detailed plot summary: the initial materials do not establish a full story, supporting cast, or specific mission structure.
Why does it look like Yakuza?
The resemblance is understandable: GANG OF DRAGON comes from Nagoshi, is set in Kabukicho, and focuses on crime and action-adventure. Those are grounds for a comparison, not evidence that the games share a world or franchise. Nagoshi Studio presents GANG OF DRAGON as its own story, with a Korean syndicate member at its center; the available announcement materials do not identify it as a Yakuza or Like a Dragon game.

What gameplay has been announced?
The studio’s game page describes third-person action built around several kinds of combat and vehicle sequences. Its announced features include:
- Hand-to-hand strikes
- Blade attacks
- Gunplay
- High-impact vehicle action, including high-speed car chases through Shinjuku
These are features in the studio’s promotional description, not independently verified gameplay details. The initial announcement does not provide a release date or explain how these systems work in practice.

What platforms and release date are confirmed?
At the December 2025 announcement, Gematsu reported the game for PC via Steam and said additional platforms had not been announced at that time (Gematsu, December 11, 2025). That is historical platform information, not confirmation that PC is the only platform planned now. The cited materials provide no verified release date or release window.

There is no cancellation confirmation in the cited reporting. The project’s status is unclear after reports that NetEase funding would end; those reports described serious financial and organizational uncertainty, but did not establish that development formally stopped.

What the timeline shows
- December 12, 2025: Nagoshi Studio announced the game and released its initial teaser.
- January 10, 2026: Nagoshi said the game was “currently in development,” adding that its setting and gameplay were being built from the ground up. This confirms what the studio said at that point, not its later status. Nagoshi Studio, January 10, 2026.
- March 9, 2026: PC Gamer reported, citing Bloomberg via GamesIndustry, that NetEase had decided to end funding in May. It also reported that the project needed at least $44.4 million more to complete, that the studio had not found another backer at that point, and that NetEase would allow development to continue if the studio bought out the assets or brand. The latest status information in these cited sources is from May 2026. It does not establish whether another backer appeared, whether development later ceased, or whether GANG OF DRAGON was cancelled.
