Most Garten of Banban crashes on PC are linked to damaged Steam files, outdated graphics drivers, overlay conflicts, unsupported graphics settings, mods, or hardware that falls below the requirements. Try these fixes in order, starting with the safest options. First, confirm which game you own: the original Garten of Banban and entries such as Garten of Banban 4 and Garten of Banban 8: Anti Devil have separate Steam listings and may have different requirements.
Open Steam → Library, right-click the exact Garten of Banban entry, select Properties, and confirm the title and installation location.

1. Check the exact edition and your PC’s requirements
“Garten of Banban” can mean the original game or one of several numbered entries. Check the specific Steam page for the edition that crashes; do not assume the original game’s requirements apply to every sequel.
For the original Steam release, the listed minimum requirements include:

Steam’s current client requirement is Windows 10 or later, so Windows 7 is not a practical modern baseline for playing through Steam even though it still appears on the original game page. Meeting minimum specifications also does not guarantee stable performance: laptop power limits, integrated graphics, thermal throttling, background programs, and VR overhead can all matter.
Compare the relevant listing with Garten of Banban 4 or Garten of Banban 8 if one of those is your edition.
2. Restart Windows and update everything
A restart can clear a stuck driver, incomplete Steam update, or background process that is preventing the game from starting.

3. Verify the Steam game files
File verification is one of the safest early fixes. It can reacquire missing or damaged files without requiring you to remove the whole installation.
- Open Steam → Library.
- Right-click the affected Garten of Banban entry.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, then relaunch the game.
Steam’s wording can vary slightly between client versions. If verification repeatedly finds damaged files, note that result and continue with the later clean-reinstall and support steps.

Close or disable:
- Steam Overlay
- Discord Overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience overlay
- AMD Adrenalin overlay
- MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server
- Screen-recording and streaming tools
- RGB and hardware-monitoring utilities
- ReShade, mods, injectors, and unofficial launchers
- Third-party antivirus or “game booster” features
Then launch the game with only Steam running. If it works, restore programs one at a time until the conflict returns. When the culprit remains unclear, Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure can isolate non-Microsoft services and startup applications. Hide Microsoft services, disable the remaining non-Microsoft services and startup items, test the game, and restore normal startup afterward.
5. Lower the graphics settings and change display mode
If the game reaches its menu, reduce the rendering workload before attempting a reinstall:
- Open the game’s Options or Settings menu.
- Choose the lowest graphics preset temporarily.
- Lower the resolution to 1280×720 or 1600×900.
- Try windowed or borderless mode if fullscreen causes a crash.
- Reduce shadows, effects, textures, and view distance where available.
- Disable motion blur and other optional effects.
- Cap the frame rate if the game provides that option.
- Apply the settings and restart the game.
On a low-end laptop or integrated GPU, connect the charger and use the manufacturer’s performance mode where available. Windows 10 and Windows 11 users can also check Settings → System → Display → Graphics, add the game executable if necessary, and select the high-performance GPU.

If the game crashes before the menu, avoid inventing launch commands from unverified guides. Resetting a damaged configuration may help, but first identify the exact edition and back up relevant saves and configuration files.

6. Separate desktop and VR troubleshooting
A VR crash has additional possible causes, including SteamVR, Meta Quest Link, the headset runtime, USB connections, motion controllers, and VR-specific rendering settings.
For normal desktop play
- Close SteamVR.
- Disconnect the headset temporarily if necessary.
- Launch the regular desktop version of the game.
- Disable overlays and use lower graphics settings while testing.
For VR play
- Confirm SteamVR or Meta Quest Link starts correctly before launching the game.
- Reconnect the headset and motion controllers.
- Test without overlays or recording software.
- Lower resolution and graphics settings.
- Check whether the crash happens only when entering VR or also in desktop mode.
The original Steam listing specifies SteamVR or OculusVR through Meta Quest Link and motion controls for its VR mode. Requirements and behavior can differ between numbered entries, so use the listing for your edition.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannowWait for DISM to finish before starting SFC, and do not close the window before SFC reaches 100 percent. Microsoft recommends this DISM-then-SFC sequence in its Windows repair guidance.
- No integrity violations: Windows system-file corruption is less likely to be the cause.
- Corrupt files repaired: Restart Windows and test the game again.
- Some files could not be repaired: Follow Microsoft’s additional repair guidance; do not download replacement DLLs from unofficial sites.
8. Reinstall cleanly or contact the developer
Reinstall only after the earlier steps, unless the installation was interrupted during an update, moved between drives, restored from a backup, or modified with unofficial files.
Before uninstalling:
- Back up local saves if present.
- Do not assume Steam Cloud preserves every save or every edition’s progress.
- Note the exact game title and Steam App ID.
- Remove mods, ReShade files, injectors, and unofficial launchers.
- Ensure the destination drive has adequate free space.
After reinstalling, test the game before adding overlays or mods. If only Garten of Banban fails, concentrate on Steam files, settings, overlays, mods, and game-specific support. If several games fail, investigate the graphics driver, overheating, RAM stability, Windows, and hardware. A full shutdown, restart, or blue screen is not an ordinary game crash and may reveal an underlying system problem.
