There is no official announcement of a Gears 6 sequel in the Xbox sources available as of October 8, 2026. Instead, The Coalition released Gears of War: E-Day on October 6, 2026: an origin story set before the original game. Xbox describes E-Day as the studio’s choice “instead of Gears 6.”
Is Gears 6 confirmed?
No. Xbox’s June feature describes The Coalition’s decision to make Gears of War: E-Day as an origin story “instead of Gears 6.” Nicole Fawcette, studio brand director at The Coalition, said, “Now we know that E-Day is a story that people want.” That establishes E-Day as the studio’s current Gears project; it does not confirm a future Gears 6 sequel or provide a release window for one.

What is Gears of War: E-Day about?
Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person cover shooter set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. Its campaign follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde first emerges from underground and humanity faces the invasion. “E-Day” refers to Emergence Day, the outbreak at the heart of the story.
When did E-Day release, and where can you play it?
Xbox lists the global release date as October 6, 2026. Its listed platforms are Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11 PC; the PC FAQ names both Microsoft Store and Steam. Xbox also lists the game in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Xbox Play Anywhere supports cross-progression and achievements. Xbox’s October 1 launch post additionally lists cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Availability and service terms can vary by region and change over time, so check the relevant storefront or service for current access.

Campaign co-op
You can play the campaign solo, in two-player split-screen co-op on console, or online with up to four players. Split-screen is specifically listed for console; the four-player option is online co-op.

Xbox’s US product page accessed October 8, 2026 listed Standard Edition at $69.99 and Premium Edition at $99.99. Those are US-specific price listings from that date, not guaranteed current prices elsewhere.
