The allowance resets with your billing cycle, up to 15 unused hours can carry over, and reaching the limit does not necessarily end access: you can buy more premium time or continue with the basic/free-tier experience until the reset.
The policy was announced in November 2024 and became effective for many grandfathered subscribers during 2026. The exact transition date depends on the account’s billing cycle.

When did NVIDIA introduce the cap?
NVIDIA announced the policy in November 2024 as a future change. Its current GeForce NOW FAQ now describes the 100-hour allowance as an active rule for Performance and Ultimate members.
For qualifying paid subscribers who joined before January 15, 2026, NVIDIA says unlimited playtime continued until the first billing date after that date. That means the change did not necessarily happen on January 1 for every account; a subscriber’s billing date determines when the new allowance begins.

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
NVIDIA’s stated reason is to preserve service quality, speed, and shorter queues for premium members. The company also said in its original announcement that the allowance would cover about 94% of subscribers, though that figure is NVIDIA’s estimate rather than independent usage research.
Who is affected?
| Membership | Playtime policy |
|---|---|
| Performance | 100 hours of premium playtime per billing cycle, with up to 15 unused hours carried over. |
| Ultimate | 100 hours of premium playtime per billing cycle, with up to 15 unused hours carried over. |
| Active base Founders | NVIDIA says unlimited playtime for life, provided the membership does not lapse. |
| Founders upgraded to Ultimate | The Ultimate plan’s 100-hour limit applies while the account remains on Ultimate. |
| Free | Operates under the free-tier experience rather than receiving the same 100-hour premium allowance. |
“Founders” is therefore not an automatic exemption in every situation. The account must still have the base Founders membership, remain active, and not be upgraded to Ultimate if the goal is to retain the unlimited Founders entitlement.
How the 100-hour allowance works
It is premium playtime, not total account access
The cap applies to premium playtime. After the allowance is used, NVIDIA says members can either purchase additional premium hours or continue playing with basic rigs and the free-user experience until their allowance resets.

The reset follows your billing cycle
“Monthly” does not necessarily mean the first day of the calendar month. NVIDIA ties the reset to the member’s billing cycle and says the exact date is shown in the Account Portal.
Up to 15 hours can roll over
Unused premium time carries over, but only up to 15 hours. A member with the full allowance and maximum rollover could therefore begin a billing cycle with as much as 115 hours available. That 115-hour figure is the practical maximum inferred from NVIDIA’s 100-hour allowance plus its 15-hour rollover limit; unused time cannot accumulate indefinitely.
What happens after 100 hours?
When the premium allowance is exhausted, NVIDIA describes two options:
- Buy more premium playtime: Additional hours can be purchased through the GeForce NOW Account Portal, allowing the member to retain premium benefits.
- Continue without buying hours: Play continues with basic rigs and the free-user experience until the next billing reset.
NVIDIA’s current FAQ confirms the purchase option but does not establish one universal current top-up price for every country or account. Reports accompanying the original 2024 announcement cited 15-hour add-ons at $2.99 for Performance and $5.99 for Ultimate. Those figures should be treated as originally reported rates, not guaranteed August 2026 prices; check the price displayed in your Account Portal.

The Founders exception deserves careful attention
NVIDIA says an active base Founders membership retains unlimited playtime for life as long as the membership does not lapse. However, upgrading that Founders account to Ultimate subjects it to Ultimate’s 100-hour allowance.
The relevant distinctions are:
- An active base Founders membership: unlimited playtime according to NVIDIA.
- A Founders account upgraded to Ultimate: the 100-hour Ultimate limit applies.
- A lapsed membership: the lifetime entitlement may no longer be available under NVIDIA’s no-lapse condition.
Before cancelling, changing plans, or upgrading, confirm the entitlement shown on the account. Do not assume that any account with a historical Founders association remains unlimited.
Install-to-Play is an important exception
NVIDIA says that beginning April 30, 2026, premium members retain access to Install-to-Play games even after exhausting their premium allowance and without purchasing additional playtime.
This does not make all GeForce NOW streaming unlimited. Install-to-Play applies only to supported games and participating publishers. Cloud-streamed premium sessions remain subject to the allowance. Treat Install-to-Play as a specific post-cap access exception, not as removal of the policy.

Is GeForce NOW still worth it?
If you play under 100 hours per billing cycle
The cap may have little practical impact. NVIDIA’s U.S. marketplace listed Performance at $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually and Ultimate at $19.99 monthly or $199.99 annually on August 16, 2026. Performance is aimed at users seeking premium access below the allowance, while Ultimate targets users who prioritize stronger cloud hardware and higher streaming performance.
These prices are U.S. price signals observed on that date and may vary by country, billing channel, promotion, or later changes. Annual billing lowers the effective monthly price but does not, based on the available NVIDIA information, remove the 100-hour limit.
If you regularly exceed 100 hours
Calculate your actual monthly usage and compare the subscription cost plus any top-ups with the cost and convenience of local hardware, a console, or another cloud service. The important question is whether you can tolerate the basic/free-tier experience after the allowance or whether retaining premium benefits is essential.

By comparison, 100 hours averages about 3 hours 20 minutes per day in a 30-day billing period, or about 3 hours 14 minutes per day in a 31-day period.

If you play only occasionally
NVIDIA’s U.S. marketplace listed Performance Day Passes at $3.99 and Ultimate Day Passes at $7.99 on August 16, 2026. These may suit short bursts or a new release, but the available material does not confirm that day passes bypass or reset an existing monthly allowance. Do not treat them as a guaranteed cap workaround.
How to check your own limit
- Sign in to the NVIDIA GeForce NOW Account Portal.
- Open the membership or playtime information shown for your account.
- Check your remaining premium hours.
- Check the exact reset date tied to your billing cycle.
- If you have Founders status or grandfathered access, verify the displayed entitlement before upgrading, cancelling, or changing plans.
Account-specific terms matter for mid-cycle upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, and resubscriptions. NVIDIA’s cited FAQ does not spell out every possible transition calculation, so contact NVIDIA support if the portal does not clearly show how a change will affect your allowance.
Bottom line
GeForce NOW’s cap is real and is already active for affected Performance and Ultimate subscribers. It is 100 hours of premium playtime per billing cycle, not a universal shutdown after 100 hours. Up to 15 hours roll over, additional premium time can be purchased, and basic/free-tier access remains available after exhaustion. Active base Founders members are the major stated exception, but upgrading to Ultimate brings back the 100-hour limit. Install-to-Play also remains available to eligible premium members after April 30, 2026, without making premium streaming unlimited.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does buying an annual GeForce NOW plan remove the 100-hour cap?
No such exemption is stated in NVIDIA’s available plan information. Annual Performance and Ultimate memberships should be treated as subject to the same allowance unless NVIDIA shows different terms for the specific account.
What happens if I cancel and later resubscribe?
The cited NVIDIA material does not fully establish every cancellation and resubscription scenario. Check the entitlement displayed in the Account Portal or contact NVIDIA support before cancelling, especially if your account has Founders or grandfathered status.
