Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition launched on Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025. If you are choosing a BLADE division in this edition, there is no strategic best pick: division is an identity and role-play choice, not a progression build. Choose the group whose work appeals to you; you can change it later at the BLADE Barracks computer. This advice is specific to the Switch Definitive Edition, since the original Wii U version handles division activities differently.
Which BLADE division should you choose?
Pick based on the kind of work you want your character associated with, rather than an expected gameplay advantage. The current-edition guide from Nintendo Life reports that your division does not affect gameplay, relationships, or progress in Definitive Edition. The choice is made at the start of Chapter 3, and you can switch divisions later using the computer in your room at the BLADE Barracks in NLA.
What each of the eight divisions does
Each division has a distinct role in BLADE and the colony. Use these themes to find a good role-play fit; they are not a ranking of progression benefits in Definitive Edition.

Choose by the kind of story you want to play

- Prefer surveying and collecting plants and animals? Choose Curators.
- Like finding materials and mining resources? Choose Prospectors.
- Want a protective combat identity? Choose Interceptors. For hunting especially dangerous monsters, choose Harriers.
- Are you drawn to recovering what remains of the White Whale? Choose Reclaimers.
- Want to support weapons and equipment development? Choose Outfitters.
- Would you rather help NLA residents resolve problems? Choose Mediators.
These are thematic recommendations for Definitive Edition, not claims that one division grants stronger abilities or faster progress.

The Switch release is Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, which Nintendo announced with enhanced visuals and added story elements; its release date was March 20, 2025, according to Nintendo’s announcement. Nintendo Life reports that Definitive Edition removes BLADE Levels and that division choice no longer affects gameplay, relationships, or progress.

Do not carry that division advice over unchanged to the original Wii U game. Nintendo’s 2015 Wii U launch announcement presents division work as part of exploration and survival, while the Wii U electronic manual says completing an activity recommended by a division is one way to raise companion affinity. For that original edition, the activities you do can matter to affinity, so consult advice that specifically covers Wii U rather than assuming the Switch guide applies.
