gg.dll is not a Windows system file. It is a Konnekt plugin associated with Gadu-Gadu, an instant-messaging network. Konnekt was a discontinued Windows multi-messenger developed by stamina, and its archived documentation identifies gg.dll as the component that provided Gadu-Gadu support.

The safest repair is to close Konnekt, check whether Windows Security quarantined the file, then repair or reinstall the complete Konnekt package from a trusted original installer or backup. Do not download an isolated copy of gg.dll, copy it into System32, or register it with regsvr32.
If the error comes from a different application, first verify the executable and DLL path. A filename alone does not prove that the unrelated program uses Konnekt’s copy.
What gg.dll does
Konnekt supported several messaging networks, including Gadu-Gadu, Jabber, and Tlen. Its gg.dll file handled the Gadu-Gadu connection. Archived Konnekt material describes the file as the Gadu-Gadu protocol component and identifies LibGadu as the underlying library.
Archived forum logs show Konnekt loading the file from a location similar to:
Konnektpluginsgg.dll
That makes gg.dll an application plugin, not a shared Windows component. It is not normally expected in either of these folders:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The archived Konnekt site describes an old Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP target. That history matters on Windows 10 and Windows 11: even if the missing file is restored, the complete application may still have compatibility, protocol, or dependency problems.
There is no authoritative public file table establishing one universal gg.dll version, size, hash, or 64-bit build. Do not use those details from an unverified download page to decide whether a replacement is safe.
Why the error appears
The most common causes are:
- Konnekt was incompletely installed.
- The
pluginsfolder orgg.dllwas deleted. - Antivirus quarantined the file.
- An old backup restored the program without all plugin files.
- Konnekt was moved to another folder and now looks in the wrong location.
- A manually copied file belongs to a different Konnekt build.
- The file is damaged or incompatible with the application.
- A dependency required by the old plugin is unavailable.
- The message comes from unrelated software that happens to use the same filename.
A missing gg.dll is not, by itself, evidence that Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or Windows system files are damaged.
Fix 1: Check the Konnekt folder first
Before changing Windows components, determine whether the file is actually missing.
- Close Konnekt.
- Look in the notification area near the clock. If Konnekt is running there, right-click its icon and choose Exit, Close, or the equivalent option.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the folder containing
Konnekt.exe. - Open the
pluginsfolder. - Check for
gg.dll.
If you do not know where Konnekt is installed:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select the Details tab.
- If
Konnekt.exeis listed, right-click it and choose Open file location. - Close Konnekt completely, then inspect its folder.
What the result means
gg.dllis absent: repair or reinstall Konnekt using the steps below.- The file has a different name: do not rename a random DLL to
gg.dll. - The file is in the main Konnekt folder but not
plugins: restore the complete package rather than guessing where to move it. - The file exists in the expected folder: continue to the loading and compatibility checks later in this guide.
Do not copy the file into System32, SysWOW64, the Windows folder, or another application’s directory. DLL search paths are application-specific, and putting an old plugin into a system folder can create new conflicts.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old plugin, particularly when the file is unusual, unsigned, packed, or associated with obsolete software. Do not assume that every detection is a false positive.

- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for
gg.dll, Konnekt, or the Konnekt installation folder. - Open the relevant entry and read the detection name and affected path.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from a trusted, original Konnekt installation or backup.
- The affected path is the expected Konnekt folder.
- You have considered the antivirus detection rather than dismissing it.
- A current security scan does not identify the restored file as malicious.
If you choose Restore, reinstall or repair the complete Konnekt package afterward. If the detection is unclear, leave the file quarantined and obtain a clean original package instead. Microsoft documents the Protection history and restore process in its Windows Security guidance.
Fix 3: Repair or reinstall the complete Konnekt package
A complete reinstall is usually more reliable than replacing one DLL. It restores the plugin and any related files that may also be missing.
Preserve the old profile
Before uninstalling, preserve Konnekt’s profile and configuration if you need contacts or settings.
- Close Konnekt completely.
- Press Windows+R.
- Enter:
%APPDATA%
- Press Enter.
- Look for a Konnekt-related folder.
- Copy it to a separate backup location, such as a folder on another drive.
Archived Konnekt logs indicate that user profiles were stored separately from the program files, but the exact location can vary with the installation and Windows version. Do not delete a profile folder until you have confirmed that the backup opens or copies successfully.
Try Windows repair if available
If Konnekt appears in the installed-app list:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Find Konnekt.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
Not every traditional desktop application exposes a Repair button. If the option is missing or does not restore gg.dll, continue with a complete reinstall.
Reinstall from a trusted package
Use the original Konnekt installer, a verified organizational backup, or the archived vendor source maintained by stamina. Avoid a standalone DLL collection or a package whose provenance you cannot establish.
- Back up the profile as described above.
- Uninstall Konnekt from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, if it is listed.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the trusted Konnekt installer.
- Install the complete application to its original location when possible.
- Start Konnekt once.
- Confirm that the
pluginsfolder contains the matchinggg.dll. - Restore the profile only if the application requires it and the backup is trusted.
If Windows displays a compatibility warning, record it rather than bypassing every warning automatically. A package designed for older Windows may install but still fail to communicate with an obsolete service.

Fix 4: Check whether the file is blocked or damaged
If gg.dll exists but Konnekt still reports that it cannot load it, inspect the file itself.

- What Can I do if the Bluetooth adapter can not work?: Ensure there are no other Bluetooth devices installed on the computer. If there are, disable all existing Bluetooth devices in "Device Manager", then insert the adapter and try again. (For detailed information please read the user manual)
- Right-click
gg.dll. - Select Properties.
- On the General tab, look for an Unblock checkbox or message.
- If the file came from a trusted backup and Windows marked it as blocked, select Unblock, then choose Apply.
- Review the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Run a scan with Windows Security before launching the file.
Do not treat the absence of a digital signature as proof of malware. Old application plugins may not have modern signing information. It does mean that provenance becomes more important.
Also confirm that the file is in the same Konnekt installation that launches the error. Search results can show several copies of gg.dll; replacing the wrong one will not change the failing program.
32-bit and 64-bit considerations
The age of Konnekt and its documented Windows targets strongly suggest a legacy 32-bit application, but there is no authoritative public record proving one universal architecture for every gg.dll build.

However, a 32-bit plugin must load into a 32-bit host. A 64-bit DLL cannot be used to repair a 32-bit Konnekt installation, and installing both x86 and x64 runtime packages does not change that rule.
If the message says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or contains an error, treat it as a potentially damaged file, incompatible build, wrong architecture, or missing dependency. It is not automatically a request to install a runtime.
Fix 5: Install a Microsoft runtime only when a dependency identifies it
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET simply because gg.dll is missing. Those packages do not recreate a deleted Konnekt plugin.
A runtime becomes relevant when a diagnostic tool or a specific loader message names a Microsoft dependency, such as a particular Visual C++ runtime DLL. In that case:
- Record the exact missing dependency.
- Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable documentation.
- Select the architecture that matches the application.
- Install the required package.
- Restart Windows.
- Try Konnekt again.
Microsoft notes that older Visual C++ redistributables can remain installed side by side and that the package architecture must match the application. Installing every available architecture without identifying the dependency is not a reliable repair.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if other applications are also failing
gg.dll belongs to Konnekt, so Windows system-file repair is not the normal first step. Consider it when multiple unrelated programs report damaged system components or Windows itself is behaving abnormally.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Konnekt again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If these commands report that Windows repaired system files but gg.dll is still missing from the Konnekt folder, reinstall Konnekt. SFC cannot recreate a third-party application plugin.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while leaving the actual Konnekt installation incomplete. Device Manager does not normally restore an application plugin.
Use it only if the error appears alongside a broader hardware or driver problem:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the separate problem.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver or Properties to inspect its status.
Windows Features is also not a general DLL repair tool. Opening Turn Windows features on or off will not reinstall Konnekt or Gadu-Gadu support. Enable a Windows feature only when another application explicitly requires it and you know which feature is missing.
If a current device driver is separately causing application instability, Outbyte Driver Updater can show which installed drivers are stale so you do not have to hunt through hardware vendors manually; the driver installation requires the full version, and it will not replace the Konnekt-owned gg.dll.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is mainly used for COM and ActiveX components.
A Konnekt protocol plugin is loaded by Konnekt from its plugin directory. It is not made functional by registering it globally. Running a command such as this is therefore generally inappropriate:
regsvr32 gg.dll
It may produce an error such as “The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.” That does not prove the file is missing or that Windows is damaged. It simply means the DLL is not a self-registering COM server.

If Konnekt worked recently and a suitable restore point exists, System Restore may undo a program or system change.
- Press Windows+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore is not a substitute for a trusted Konnekt installer, and it may not recover a file removed by antivirus. Use it only when the restore point predates the problem and you understand which applications may be changed.
If Konnekt still will not load
When gg.dll exists and reinstalling does not help, check these points:
- Confirm that the erroring executable is actually
Konnekt.exe. - Confirm that the path shown in the error belongs to Konnekt.
- Check whether Konnekt is a legacy 32-bit application running on 64-bit Windows.
- Review Windows Security and other antivirus logs.
- Look for a second missing dependency in the error message or application log.
- Try launching the application from its installed folder rather than an old shortcut.
- Test Properties > Compatibility on the Konnekt executable only if needed.
- Avoid mixing files from different Konnekt packages.
- Do not assume that a successful file copy proves the plugin is compatible.
If Konnekt starts but Gadu-Gadu does not connect, the issue may be obsolete service or protocol compatibility rather than gg.dll. Restoring the file cannot make a discontinued online service work again.

When to stop troubleshooting
Konnekt is obsolete software designed for much older Windows releases. Modern Windows 10 and Windows 11 compatibility is not guaranteed, and there is no verified universal gg.dll build suitable for every installation.

If you cannot locate a trusted original package, the safest choice may be to remove Konnekt rather than obtain an unverified DLL. Before uninstalling, back up any profile data you still need.

Is gg.dll a Windows file?
No. Available Konnekt documentation identifies it as the Gadu-Gadu plugin supplied with Konnekt. It should not normally be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Can I download gg.dll by itself?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. A random copy may contain malware, belong to another build, use the wrong architecture, or omit the other files Konnekt needs. Restore the complete application from a trusted installer or backup.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Not merely because gg.dll is missing. Install a Microsoft runtime only when a dependency diagnostic explicitly identifies that runtime.

Usually no. Konnekt loads this file as a plugin, not as a globally registered COM component.
What if antivirus quarantined the file?
Review Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history. Restore it only when its provenance is trusted and the detection has been assessed. Otherwise reinstall Konnekt from a trusted package.
Why does the error mention a game or another application?
The filename may be reused by unrelated software. Check the executable name and full DLL path before assuming the problem is Konnekt-related.
Can SFC restore gg.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It does not normally recreate a third-party Konnekt plugin.
What is the correct fix?
Close Konnekt, check quarantine, and repair or reinstall the complete Konnekt package. That is safer than copying a standalone DLL or installing unrelated Windows components.
