Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is an expanded edition of the same open-world action adventure, not a replacement campaign. It includes the original game and adds the Iki Island story expansion, plus bonus content. Iki is available on both PS4 and PS5; the headline technical enhancements, including Japanese lip-sync, are specific to PS5.
What does Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut include?
The Director’s Cut keeps the original Tsushima campaign and adds a separate story chapter on Iki Island. 10 ways the Director’s Cut differs from the original
1. It adds the Iki Island story
Jin travels to Iki after reports of a Mongol presence there. The expansion brings a new chapter and characters, with events connected to Jin’s past. It adds to the Tsushima campaign rather than replacing it. Sony announced the expansion as part of the Director’s Cut on PlayStation.Blog.
2. It opens a new explorable location
Iki is a distinct setting with new environments to explore. The added island is the largest structural change for players who have already completed the original campaign: there is more of the world to travel through, not just a set of cosmetic extras.

10. PS5 gets different performance options and an upgrade path

Upgrade costs depend on the edition and how the original was purchased. At the US PlayStation Store listing accessed October 8, 2026, the listed upgrade add-ons were $29.99 from the original PS4 game to PS5 Director’s Cut, $10 from PS4 Director’s Cut to PS5, and $19.99 for the PS4 Director’s Cut upgrade. These are region- and date-specific listing prices, not universal or permanent rates.
- PS4 disc owners: The UK PlayStation page says the discounted PS5 digital upgrade requires a PS5 with a Blu-ray disc drive. You must insert the PS4 disc each time you download or play the PS5 digital version. A digital-only PS5 cannot use that disc-owner offer. See PlayStation’s UK Ghost of Tsushima page for the stated disc conditions.
- Digital owners: Check the relevant upgrade option against the edition in your library and the Store listing for your region; the available path and price depend on what you own.
What the Director’s Cut does not make exclusive
Not every improvement associated with the game is exclusive to this edition. Sony said a patch for all owners added alternate controller layouts, target lock-on, and the option to hide the quiver. Sony also described Legends updates as available at no additional charge to owners of any version at the time. Those updates should not be counted as Director’s Cut-only features.
Which version should you choose?
- Choose Director’s Cut if you want the Iki story and its added exploration, activities, combat additions, and rewards. It is the edition that packages the original game with the expansion.
- Choose the PS5 edition if you want the listed PS5-specific features. Japanese lip-sync, DualSense effects, enhanced 3D audio, and the announced performance options are tied to PS5.
- Choose the PS4 edition if you want Iki without those PS5-specific features. The expansion itself is available on both platforms.
- If you already own the original, compare the upgrade offer with buying the edition outright. Confirm the current regional Store price and, for a disc-based upgrade, whether your PS5 has a disc drive.
The US PlayStation Store listing accessed October 8, 2026 showed digital Director’s Cut prices of $59.99 for PS4 and $69.99 for PS5. Sony’s 2021 launch announcement instead listed launch prices of $69.99 for PS5 and $59.99 for PS4, as well as launch upgrade prices of $19.99 for PS4 Director’s Cut and $29.99 for a direct upgrade from the original PS4 game to PS5 Director’s Cut. The dated launch figures are historical; current prices and upgrade offers vary by region and can change. Check the current US Store listing or the PlayStation Store for your region before purchasing.
Does Legends come with it?
The PlayStation Store lists Legends online co-op as included content, with support for up to four online players. Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. This is a cooperative online mode, separate from the Iki single-player story expansion.
