Yes—Raid matchmaking was reportedly added after launch. The Raid did not support matchmaking when it launched, but a report on update 1.601 says the update added it. The Raid itself is still designed for a four-player team: matchmaking helps assemble that team; it does not reduce the required player count.

Does the Ghost of Yōtei Legends Raid have matchmaking?

At launch, it did not. GamesRadar+ reported on April 4, 2026, that players would need to invite friends or coordinate with community members to form a Raid group, even though matchmaking was available for other missions. GamesRadar+’s launch coverage describes that launch-era limitation.

Later, MP1st reported that update 1.601 added Raid matchmaking. The official PlayStation materials available for this article do not confirm that specific update, so treat the rollout detail as secondary reporting rather than a publisher-verified patch note. MP1st’s update 1.601 report is the source for the reported change.

Does matchmaking mean you can Raid with fewer than four players?

No. Matchmaking is about finding teammates; it does not change the Raid’s team-size requirement. In a March 9, 2026 PlayStation Blog interview, Sucker Punch Legends Lead Designer Darren Bridges described the Raid as four-player content and said it cannot be completed with fewer than four players. The May 15 PlayStation retrospective likewise describes the four-player cooperation needed to survive the Raid’s labyrinth strongholds.

Ghost of Yōtei PS5
  • Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
  • Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
  • An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
  • Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.

That is a design requirement, not a requirement to use voice chat. Bridges emphasized communication and coordination, but did not say that players must communicate through a particular method. Read the PlayStation interview with Bridges and PlayStation’s Raid retrospective.

What you need to play Legends online

Legends is Ghost of Yōtei’s cooperative multiplayer mode, not a separate paid DLC purchase. PlayStation says it is available at no additional cost to owners of Ghost of Yōtei, and describes the mode as allowing up to three friends to join a player. Online play requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account; PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer according to the official Ghost of Yōtei Legends page.
