Ghost of Yōtei launched for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. It is a standalone story in the Ghost franchise—not a direct story sequel to Ghost of Tsushima—with a new protagonist, Atsu, and a setting more than 300 years later.

Ghost of Yōtei launched on October 2, 2025. It is a PlayStation 5 game with PS5 Pro support, and it is not available for PS4, according to PlayStation’s game page.

Is Ghost of Yōtei a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?
It is a follow-up in the same franchise, but not a direct story sequel. PlayStation describes the stories as unrelated: Yōtei has a different protagonist and takes place more than 300 years after the events of Tsushima. It carries forward the series’ Ghost identity and develops the earlier game’s design and mythos without continuing Jin Sakai’s personal story.
As Sucker Punch communications manager Andrew Goldfarb put it in the April 23, 2025 release announcement: “While the stories are unrelated, it’s important to us to make this a worthy follow-up to Jin’s journey, and we can’t wait for you to experience Atsu’s quest for vengeance later this year.”

Who is Atsu, and where is her story set?
Atsu is a new protagonist whose story takes place in 1603 in Ezo, the region known today as Hokkaido, around Mount Yōtei. The Sucker Punch announcement places her journey more than 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima.
The Yōtei Six killed Atsu’s family, and she returns to hunt them. PlayStation’s release announcement also says that she meets allies and finds a broader purpose as she explores; the story is not framed as vengeance alone.

Sucker Punch’s pre-release descriptions emphasize open-world exploration, combat, and freedom to choose which leads to pursue. The studio also described new weapons and skills, bounties, weapon sensei, and the ability to make campfires. These are official descriptions of the game’s intended features, not independent assessment of how they play.

PlayStation’s 2025 release announcement named Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s editions. Its US PlayStation Store listing also describes a Complete Edition for PS5, with the main game and additional listed content, including cooperative Ghost of Yōtei Legends modes: Survival, Story, and Incursion. Store contents, availability, and when bundled content can be played may vary by region or change over time, so check the listing for your local store before choosing an edition.

The announced Collector’s Edition included physical collectibles: a tsuba replica measuring approximately 3 × 3 inches with a display stand, a pouch of coins with Zeni Hajiki instructions, a foldable papercraft ginkgo tree with a wolf, and four 5 × 7-inch art cards.
