Gigantamax Snorlax is weak to Fighting-type attacks, so build your Max Battle party around eligible Pokémon that can deal Fighting damage—especially with Max Knuckle or a relevant Gigantamax move. Pokémon GO Hub’s modeled Max-phase ranking puts Gigantamax Machamp first, followed by Dynamax Urshifu, Dynamax Gallade, and Dynamax Machamp, but the ranking is a damage simulation, not a guaranteed-win team list.
Gigantamax Snorlax’s weakness
Snorlax is a Normal-type Pokémon, making Fighting-type attacks the relevant weakness to exploit. Prioritize a Max attacker with a Fighting-type Fast Attack and a Fighting-type Max attack when available. Pokémon GO’s Type Effectiveness in Battle help page explains how type matchups affect damage.
Best Gigantamax Snorlax counters
Pokémon GO Hub’s counter page ranks eligible attackers by modeled damage during the Max phase. Its list assumes level 3 Max or Gigantamax moves, no lag, and three consecutive Max Attacks; it models an attacker switching in after a defender or tank has charged energy. The ranking is useful for comparing Max-phase damage, but it does not account for every player’s roster, durability, or upgrade resources.
| Rank | Pokémon | Listed move combination |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gigantamax Machamp | Counter / G-Max Chi Strike |
| 2 | Dynamax Urshifu (Single Strike Style) | Counter / Max Knuckle |
| 3 | Dynamax Urshifu (Rapid Strike Style) | Counter / Max Knuckle |
| 4 | Dynamax Gallade | Low Kick / Max Knuckle |
| 5 | Dynamax Machamp | Counter / Max Knuckle |
| 6 | Dynamax Hitmonlee | Not stated in the ranking summary; see Pokémon GO Hub’s counter page |
| 7 | Dynamax Alakazam | Not stated in the ranking summary; see Pokémon GO Hub’s counter page |
The move pairings and ordering above come from Pokémon GO Hub’s Gigantamax Snorlax counter analysis. Treat them as modeled guidance rather than a universal prescription: a high-ranked Pokémon is useful only if you can bring it, prepare it, and keep it viable in your battle plan.

Prepare a legal, role-based party
Each Trainer selects three Pokémon and must bring at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon; only Max Pokémon can enter a Max Battle. Pokémon GO’s official Dynamax and Gigantamax overview describes Gigantamax challenges with up to 40 Trainers, organized in groups of four or fewer.
- Max attacker: Use a Fighting-focused Pokémon to make the most of the Max phase.
- Defender or tank: A more durable choice can help you stay in the battle and build energy before your attacker takes the Max phase. This is a strategic role split used in the counter model, not an official party requirement.
- Support: Max Guard reduces incoming damage, while Max Spirit restores some HP to its user and allies. Choose and train support moves to suit your team’s needs.
Max Moves can be trained with Max Particles and Candy. The Pokémon GO Help Center explains how to collect Max Particles and Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.

Battle tips: charge the meter, dodge, and use the Max phase well
- Attack to build energy. Use Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks to fill the Max meter. When battlefield energy appears, swipe toward it to collect it and fill the meter faster.
- Watch for the dodge prompt. When Snorlax targets your Pokémon, swipe to dodge rather than ignoring the warning.
- Use Max turns deliberately. When the meter is full, your Pokémon Maxes for three turns. Prioritize your Fighting damage during this window, and use Max Guard or Max Spirit when survival or healing matters more than another attack.
- Consider a Max Mushroom if you have one. The Help Center says it boosts damage in Max Battles for 30 minutes; it is optional, not a requirement.
- If your team faints, keep helping. In three-star-or-higher Max Battles, if all three of your Pokémon faint, you can cheer to help teammates fill their Max meter faster. You cannot select replacements and rejoin after all three faint.
These mechanics are covered in the Pokémon GO Help Center’s Max Battles and Catching Max Pokémon guide.

The official Pokémon GO event page documents a special Gigantamax Snorlax Max Battle event on May 4, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in UTC+8 to UTC+14 time zones. It was a makeup event for Trainers affected by technical issues during the earlier event, so it is historical rather than evidence of a current appearance. The page does not establish a Snorlax event date for October 2026; check the live game and official announcements before organizing a group. See Pokémon GO’s event announcement for the archived details.
