Gigantic: Rampage Edition is worth considering if you want a team-based hero game built around coordinated objectives and lively character abilities—but its mixed review record and uncertain current online activity make it a harder recommendation for solo buyers. The strongest reasons to play are its distinctive 5v5 action and two modes with different strategic demands; the main reservations are repetition and whether you can reliably find people to play with.
What do reviews say about Gigantic: Rampage Edition?
Reception is mixed rather than broadly enthusiastic. At access on October 8, 2026, Steam displayed a “Mixed” rating: 66% positive from 3,152 English-language user reviews. That percentage and review count can change. Metacritic lists a separate PC critic Metascore of 65, labeled “Mixed or Average,” based on six reviews. These are different measures with different contributors, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.

The reviews point to a game with an appealing cast and a distinctive blend of action and MOBA-style team play, but they also raise questions about depth, variety and long-term appeal. Hardcore Gamer praised the heroes and Rush mode in an April 19, 2024 review while wishing for more major content. Gamereactor UK found matches quick and action-filled in its April 12, 2024 review, but warned that limited depth could make them repetitive. Screen Rant wrote on April 18, 2024 that the cast and mechanics could benefit from a story mode. TouchArcade called the game worth playing if you have people to play with in its May 20, 2024 review, while expressing concern about the online population. These are release-era judgments, not evidence of current player activity.
What kind of game is it?
Gigantic: Rampage Edition is a 5v5 MOBA hero shooter. Each team selects heroes, works together to contest objectives, attacks the opposing Guardian and protects its own. The Steam listing gives the roster as 23 heroes, including Roland and Kajir, and describes upgradeable abilities, hero loadouts, skins and progression unlocks. The appeal is not just winning individual fights: players must coordinate around the team’s objectives and Guardian.

How do Rush, Clash and Custom differ?
| Mode | What it offers | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Rush | Presented by Steam as the faster-paced, more accessible mode, designed to get players into the action quickly. | Players who want a quicker entry point to the game’s team fights. |
| Clash | The strategic mode returning from the original Gigantic. | Players looking for the more deliberate, team-focused version of the game. |
| Custom | Lets players create matches, choose a map, play with friends and spectate. | Groups who want more control over a match or to watch one unfold. |
Steam does not establish exact match lengths for these modes, so “faster” should be read as the game’s positioning of Rush, not a guaranteed duration. Custom matches offer flexibility, but they do not answer whether public matchmaking is active.
What changed from the original Gigantic?
The original Gigantic launched in 2017 as a free-to-play live-service game. Rampage Edition relaunched the game as a premium, single-purchase release without microtransactions. Abstraction Games says the relaunch also included quality-of-life changes, updates to the tutorial and first-time-user experience, matchmaking improvements, cross-play, new maps and an overhauled progression system. Those are the developer’s descriptions of the work, not proof that every change performs equally well for every player.

- Defend your own country and visit the World: United States, Australia, Japan, France…
- Train yourself alone or compete with your friends!
- An enhanced version of “30 Sport Games in 1”, with revamped design, new games and more customisation!
The returning Clash mode preserves the original’s strategic direction, while Rush gives newcomers a more direct route into combat. The relaunch is therefore more than a simple paid reissue, but its central attraction remains multiplayer matches rather than a story campaign.
Is online play healthy enough to buy it?
Current player population, queue times and service health are not established by the available evidence. The review excerpts about matchmaking and population date from 2024 and cannot show what queues are like now. Launch-era reports of server trouble likewise do not establish present service conditions.

Because this is a multiplayer-focused game, check recent Steam reviews and the relevant console storefront or community shortly before buying, especially if you plan to play alone or at off-peak hours. Treat an old reviewer’s report of quick matchmaking—or concern about low population—as a snapshot from that review period, not a current guarantee.
Which platforms support it, and does it have cross-play?
The April 9, 2024 launch announcement listed Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and stated that PC-console cross-play was supported. Steam also identifies cross-platform multiplayer. These are documented launch-era platform claims; current sales availability may differ by platform and region, so check the relevant storefront before purchasing.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy Gigantic: Rampage Edition?
- Good fit: You enjoy team-based hero combat, objective play and learning different characters, and you have friends to play with or confirm that matchmaking is active where and when you play.
- Less suitable: You want a story campaign, a reliably populated multiplayer game without checking current activity, or a competitive experience whose review consensus is strongly positive.
- Worth weighing: The one-time purchase and lack of microtransactions may appeal if you prefer a paid game over free-to-play monetization, but the purchase model alone does not establish how much future content or support the game will receive.
Overall, the reviews support a conditional recommendation: Gigantic: Rampage Edition has a memorable hero-and-objective formula and distinct match modes, but its mixed scores and unresolved present-day population question mean it is safest to buy when its multiplayer pitch already suits you—not on the assumption that queues will be busy.
