No official God of War remaster announcement in March is established by the available sources. PlayStation said on February 12, 2026, that a remake of the God of War Greek trilogy was in early development. That confirmed project is a remake, not the rumored remaster described in a headline published months later.
Was a God of War remaster announced in March?
No official March announcement is confirmed. Position Is Everything published the headline “God Of War Remaster Announcement Coming In March, Says Insider” on May 20, 2026, describing insider chatter while acknowledging uncertainty about the project’s scope and lineup. Because that date is after March, its forward-looking timing is internally inconsistent. The article documents a rumor claim, not a Sony announcement or proof that the claim came true. Position Is Everything’s article does not identify the insider in the cited excerpt.

What did PlayStation confirm?
In its February 12, 2026 State of Play recap, PlayStation.Blog said Santa Monica Studio had confirmed that a remake of the God of War Greek trilogy was in early development. Grace Orlady, Communications Director at Santa Monica Studio, wrote: “First, confirmation that a remake of the God of War Greek trilogy is in early development.” Read the official State of Play recap.
That statement establishes the project’s broad identity and development status, but not a launch date or a feature list. The post does not specify a final title, platforms, technical approach, or the exact games included beyond describing the project as the Greek trilogy remake.

Remake and remaster are not interchangeable here
The rumor headline uses “remaster”; PlayStation’s official announcement uses “remake.” Those terms describe different claims, and the confirmed wording should not be silently rewritten to match the rumor. Based on the cited sources, the distinction is:
| Claim | Source and status | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| God of War remaster announcement in March | Position Is Everything, May 20, 2026; insider-rumor framing | The article reported a rumor. It does not establish an official announcement, and its publication date comes after the March window in the headline. |
| God of War Greek trilogy remake | PlayStation.Blog, February 12, 2026; official announcement | Santa Monica Studio confirmed it was in early development. |
In particular, the official post does not confirm that the remake is a remaster, describe its technical scope, or give enough detail to infer a release window.

How this differs from God of War III Remastered
God of War III Remastered is an existing PS4 release, not the newly announced Greek trilogy remake. PlayStation announced its PS4 release on July 14, 2015. PlayStation’s 2015 announcement is useful context for the franchise’s earlier remaster, but it says nothing about the scope of the new remake.

In a March 14, 2025 anniversary post, Santa Monica Studio marked 20 years since the first God of War, which released in 2005, and described a two-volume development retrospective, Greek-saga soundtrack vinyl, and a 13-disc anniversary collection. These are history and collector-media items, not evidence about the remake’s contents or technology. The post does not establish their current retail availability. See the studio’s anniversary post.
