Find the Hedge Broodmother in the upper Hedge near the Flingman Flying Disc, then summon her by placing a crafted Broodmother BLT on the opened egg sacs at the back of her lair. Bring a weapon that deals spicy and slashing damage, prepare for poison and increasingly dangerous spider adds, and finish your inventory setup before placing the BLT: the arena locks until the fight ends.
Where to find the Hedge Broodmother
The optional boss lives in a large burrow in the upper Hedge canopy, near the Flingman Flying Disc. Follow the branch route toward the burrow and continue inside to reach the lair. The Broodmother does not appear just because you enter; you must bring and place her summon item.

How to unlock and craft the Broodmother BLT
Find the Broodmother BLT research notes in an outpost slightly north of the Hedge Lab. The recipe is not a boss drop. Once unlocked, craft the BLT in an Oven using:
- 2 Bombardier Parts
- 2 Ladybug Parts
- 1 Thistle Needle
Carry the finished BLT to the opened egg sacs at the back of the lair and interact with them to place it. The Broodmother descends to begin the encounter and cannot be damaged during that descent. The arena locks while the fight is active, so make sure your equipment and inventory are ready first. If you die before defeating her, the BLT returns to the arena; a successful kill consumes it. You can summon her again with another BLT.

Choose damage that matches her weaknesses
The Grounded Wiki lists the Broodmother as weak to spicy and slashing damage, with a 25% bonus for each, and immune to poison. A Spicy Coaltana is a strong fit because it matches both listed weaknesses; the Spicy Staff is another option. Avoid relying on poison to damage the boss, and note that stabbing damage, including spear attacks, is resisted. Ranged weapons may still be useful for dealing with weaker adds.
What to expect in each phase
The following phase thresholds, summon counts, and combat details are reported by the Grounded Wiki. They are reference figures rather than independently tested results, and could change in a later game update.

The wiki reports 2,450 base health, 20 defense, and phase damage resistance of 25%, 50%, and 70%. Treat these as wiki-reported in-game values, not official published stats. Obsidian’s May 3, 2023 patch 1.2.2 notes address Broodmother armor and the Mom Genes mutation, but do not publish the encounter-stat table: Obsidian’s patch 1.2.2 notes.

The Broodmother uses fast melee attacks, including bites, combos, lunges, and a pounce. The wiki recommends preparing poison resistance, healing, and attack- or stamina-focused consumables. Poison resistance can help with incoming poison effects; it does not change the boss’s immunity to player-applied poison.

Spider summons add pressure, but defeating the Broodmother removes her remaining summons. If you can safely keep damage on the boss, you may not need to spend time clearing every add. If the adds are stopping you from blocking or healing, create space and deal with them before resuming attacks.

The Broodmother page could not be opened directly, so the detailed figures and phase mechanics should be treated as medium-confidence and checked against the current in-game journal or a newer patch note if the encounter changes.
