PlayStation lists the game for PS5 with a February 16, 2027 release date. Its story follows Faye after death, as she wakes in the Everywhen and discovers that plans to protect her family are in danger.
What is God of War Laufey?
God of War Laufey is a new, Faye-led entry in the series, developed by Santa Monica Studio and announced for PlayStation 5. PlayStation’s September 28, 2026 announcement quotes Santa Monica Studio Communications Director Grace Orlady: “God of War Laufey is coming to PlayStation 5 consoles on February 16, 2027.” The date and platform also appear on the official US PlayStation product page.

Who is Faye, and what is the story?
Faye—also known as Laufey—is a warrior, Kratos’s wife, and Atreus’s mother. The story begins after her death: she awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods and creatures from different mythologies meet. She discovers that plans she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are at risk and sets out to find her way home.
The premise builds on a question Santa Monica Studio raised in its June 2026 first look: what happens to gods when they die? The Everywhen brings mythologies together, giving Faye’s journey a setting distinct from the familiar realms of the previous games.

What has PlayStation said about gameplay and characters?
Combat and abilities
PlayStation describes a new sword, Jötnar magic, and combat that combines the close-quarters fighting of the modern games with the mobility of the classic Greek saga. Its September announcement also highlights Faye’s Serpent Bow and a full-aim precision mode. These are official descriptions; they are not independent hands-on impressions.
Companions and cast
The official product page introduces Rue, enchanted ribbons that guard Faye’s sword, and Phranque, a cosmic cube connected to the Everywhen. It lists Deborah Ann Woll as Faye, Jack Quaid as Phranque, and Perlina Lau as Rue.

Can you play God of War Laufey without playing the other games?
Yes. PlayStation’s FAQ says Laufey can be enjoyed completely standalone. It also says playing God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök can add context for the world and characters.
