Sony has confirmed the next mainline God of War game: God of War Laufey, starring Faye. Its setting is the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from different mythologies meet—not a single confirmed pantheon. PlayStation lists the PS5 release date as February 16, 2027.
What setting has Sony confirmed for the next God of War?
God of War Laufey takes place in the Everywhen, which Santa Monica Studio describes as an afterlife of the gods. It is a realm where beings from different mythologies come together. The official description names Sekhmet and Begtse among the gods Faye encounters, so the setting should be understood as multi-mythological rather than identified exclusively with one pantheon. Santa Monica Studio’s announcement introduces the game and its premise.

The announcement says Faye awakens after her funeral in a strange land. Her plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are at risk, and she must fight to save them. The premise places her in the Everywhen, where gods from across mythology vie for power.
Who is the protagonist, and when does the game release?
Faye—also known as Laufey—is the new playable protagonist. Sony calls Laufey the next mainline entry in the series. PlayStation lists the game for PS5 with a release date of February 16, 2027; release dates can change. See the PlayStation listing for God of War Laufey for the current platform and date information.

What was leaked, and what is now official?
An anonymous Reddit post had speculated about Faye’s role across pantheons. Sony’s later announcement confirms the broad idea that gods from different mythologies share the Everywhen, but it does not establish the post’s additional narrative claims. The confirmed setting comes from Sony, not from the leak.
There is also a separate, further Kratos game. GamesRadar reported that Cory Barlog described it as directly connected to Laufey, but the report gives no title, release window, platform, or firm details about its mythology or setting. It should not be confused with the announced Faye-led game. GamesRadar’s report on Barlog’s remarks is the source for that separate project.

How the other God of War announcements differ
The Greek trilogy remake and God of War Sons of Sparta are separate from Laufey. Sony announced the remake as being in early development and released Sons of Sparta as a PS5 Greek-mythology prequel. Neither is the next Faye-led mainline entry. Sony’s announcement of Sons of Sparta and the Greek trilogy remake covers those projects.
