SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 35,615 concurrent players for God of War Ragnarök on Steam, compared with 73,529 for God of War (2018). That makes Ragnarök’s peak 37,914 players lower—about 51.6% below the earlier game’s record. These are historical peak concurrent-player figures, not sales totals or current player counts.
Steam peak player count: Ragnarök vs. God of War (2018)
| Game | Steam release date | SteamDB all-time peak concurrent players | Date of peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| God of War Ragnarök | 19 September 2024 | 35,615 | 22 September 2024 |
| God of War (2018) | 14 January 2022 | 73,529 | 16 January 2022 |
SteamDB lists Ragnarök’s Steam charts at a peak of 35,615 concurrent users, reached three days after its Steam launch. Its God of War (2018) charts show a peak of 73,529, reached two days after that game launched on Steam. Santa Monica Studio’s PC release timing confirms Ragnarök’s PC availability began on 19 September 2024.
How much lower was Ragnarök’s peak?
Subtracting the two SteamDB records gives a difference of 37,914 concurrent players. Relative to God of War (2018)’s 73,529-player peak, Ragnarök’s 35,615-player peak was approximately 51.6% lower—roughly half as high.
The comparison uses the same measure for both games: the highest number of people playing concurrently on Steam at one recorded moment. It does not compare lifetime players, copies sold, monthly averages, reviews, or the number of people playing now. SteamDB is a third-party tracker, so its figures should be described as SteamDB-reported peaks rather than Sony sales or user totals; its records may also be revised.

What the numbers do—and do not—show
Both games reached their recorded peaks shortly after their respective Steam releases, but in different years: Ragnarök launched in September 2024, while the 2018 game arrived in January 2022. The figures establish that Ragnarök’s recorded Steam concurrency peak was lower. They do not establish why. The peak counts alone cannot show whether pricing, release circumstances, audience overlap, reviews, or another factor caused the difference.
