Later reports say Hurst left the role after an on-set stunt injury and Dave Bautista took over. Amazon’s series overview now lists Bautista as Kratos.
Who is playing Kratos in the God of War show?
Amazon’s official series overview lists Dave Bautista as Kratos. That is the current cast information on the platform’s page, updated February 16, 2026. The change from Ryan Hurst is described in entertainment-industry reporting; the sources available do not include a dedicated official recasting announcement.
Why was Ryan Hurst’s casting notable?
Hurst was announced as Kratos on January 14, 2026. He had previously performed Thor in God of War Ragnarök, making him a familiar voice and performance-capture actor from the game franchise. TheWrap’s announcement report covered both the new role and that earlier connection.
In February 2026, first-look coverage showed Hurst as Kratos alongside Callum Vinson as Atreus and reported that production was underway. That was a real, but short-lived, period of the series’ casting and filming history; it does not reflect the cast Amazon lists now. TheWrap’s first-look report documents that stage.

Prime Video’s adaptation is based on PlayStation’s God of War franchise and is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. The cited coverage frames the story around the 2018 game: Kratos and Atreus set out to spread the ashes of Faye, wife and mother. That provides context for the adaptation, but does not establish how much of the game the series will cover.
