Communications Director Grace Orlady added that the studio aims for its next update to be a substantial one: “When we can come back with an update, we aim to make it a big one!” That is an intention about the next announcement, not a timeline for the game.
Which God of War games are included?
PlayStation’s February 2026 State of Play recap calls the project a remake of the God of War Greek trilogy; Santa Monica Studio calls it the original trilogy. Together, those descriptions support identifying the project as the original Greek-era trilogy.

- Includes
- God of War collections 1 and 2
- God of War 3
- God of War Collection (Chain of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta)
The official announcement does not provide a separate game-by-game list or say that Greek-era spin-offs are included. It also does not present the project as a remake of the entire God of War franchise.
What has not been announced
- Release date or window: Neither the studio announcement nor the State of Play recap gives one. “Very early in development” is a status description, not a release estimate.
- Platforms: The cited updates do not confirm which platforms the remake will use. Its appearance in a PlayStation event recap is not, by itself, a platform announcement.
- Gameplay or product details: The official updates do not show gameplay or establish a final product title or detailed approach to the remake.
- Returning cast: TC Carson presented the announcement, and Santa Monica Studio identifies him as the actor who brought Kratos to life in the Greek saga. That does not confirm that he—or any other original performer—is part of the remake’s cast.
Don’t confuse it with God of War Sons of Sparta
The same State of Play included God of War Sons of Sparta, a separate 2D action platformer developed with Mega Cat Studios and available on PS5 at the time of that announcement. It is a distinct project, not another name or installment in the trilogy remake.

What you can play while waiting
PlayStation’s US listing for God of War III Remastered identifies it as a PS4 game released July 14, 2015, and says it is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be absent. This is an existing remaster of one Greek-era installment, not the newly announced trilogy remake. Store availability and pricing can change.

Santa Monica Studio’s announcement notes that the first God of War launched on PS2 in March 2005 and places the remake news in the series’ 20th-anniversary year. That milestone provides context for the announcement; it does not indicate when the remake will be released.
