As of August 18, 2026, there is no strong evidence of a confirmed, platform-wide GOG.com outage. Current independent status signals describe GOG as operational, although outage trackers cannot rule out a regional or service-specific problem. GOG has also recently confirmed a real incident affecting downloads and updates, so the useful question is not simply whether “GOG is down,” but which part of GOG is failing: the website, login, checkout, GOG GALAXY, downloads, updates, or a specific game.
Use the symptom-based checks below to distinguish a broad outage from a browser, network, account, client, disk, or game-specific problem.

Is GOG.com down for everyone?
The latest available outage-monitor signals do not show a confirmed broad outage. DownRightNow currently describes GOG as operational, while Downdetector’s latest indexed reports do not show a major problem spike.

GOG’s recent history confirms that partial failures are possible. In a July 21, 2026 technical notice, GOG attributed download and update problems to an outage at an external storage and CDN provider. The company said the problem could affect both GALAXY and the store, while already downloaded files and purchases were not affected. That incident is historical and does not prove that the same problem is still active.
Quick test: open GOG.com in a private window, try another browser, and then test from a phone hotspot. If the site works on the hotspot but not your home connection, the likely cause is your ISP, DNS, router, or routing path rather than a global GOG outage.
Check whether other websites and launchers work. Also try the browser store if GALAXY fails, or GALAXY if browser access fails. Record the exact error and the time it occurred.

Safe fixes to try first
- Use a private or incognito window. This bypasses stale cookies and some expired sessions.
- Try another browser. If one browser works, clear site data for GOG rather than changing account settings.
- Switch networks temporarily. A phone hotspot is a useful diagnostic comparison; it does not prove the underlying cause.
- Disable VPN or proxy variables temporarily. A VPN can sometimes bypass a routing problem, but it can also cause login, payment, latency, or fraud-detection issues.
- Fully quit GALAXY. Close the application and its tray process, reopen it, and restart the computer if the client remains stuck.
- Check security software. Confirm that your firewall or antivirus is not blocking GALAXY or its network access.
- Check the installation drive. Make sure it is connected, accessible, and has enough free space.
Do not immediately reinstall GALAXY or delete game folders. Reinstallation will not repair a server-side outage and may disturb local configuration. Treat community suggestions such as disabling IPv6, editing the registry, or deleting client data as unverified troubleshooting, not universal fixes.

GOG GALAXY error codes and recovery
GOG’s GALAXY support category separates client, installation, update, integration, and library problems. The codes help classify the symptom but do not by themselves prove that GOG is down globally.
- E3: GALAXY could not connect to GOG.com servers.
- E1: the local copy is corrupted.
- E2: an update could not be finalized.
- E4: a disk-access error occurred.
- E5: the game was running during an update.
- E6: the account does not own a valid copy.
If you see E3 across multiple devices and networks, a service or regional connection problem becomes more plausible. If only one computer reports it, first check GALAXY’s network access, firewall, proxy, account session, and installation drive.
If GALAXY does not show a recent purchase, sign in to the correct account, use GOG’s library-refresh page, and restart GALAXY. Do not delete local game files or cloud-save data as an initial step.
Downloads and updates are failing
Downloads and updates depend on content-delivery and storage services that can fail separately from the store and account systems. That is why a purchase may complete even when a game cannot be downloaded.

First check whether every game is affected or only one. Then check disk space, the selected installation directory, drive access, firewall rules, antivirus interference, and whether a different network changes the result. If downloads fail in both the browser and GALAXY across multiple networks, a GOG-side or CDN-side incident is more likely.
During a server-side incident, reinstalling GALAXY, changing your password, or deleting installed files will not restore the content-delivery service. Wait for an official GOG update and avoid repeatedly cancelling and restarting a failing download.
If you already have a game installed, leave its files intact. GOG’s DRM-free model also makes backup installers and bonus-content downloads an important fallback for games you own, where those downloads are available.

Can you play a GOG game while the service is down?
An already installed game may continue to launch when GOG’s website, download service, or GALAXY is unavailable. The July 21 incident specifically stated that already downloaded files were not affected.

That is not a guarantee for every title or configuration. Online multiplayer, third-party services, cloud saves, achievements, integrations, and some first-run activation steps may require an internet connection. A game can therefore be playable offline while optional online features are unavailable.
If you need to reduce dependence on GALAXY, download and keep the game’s official offline backup installers while your account and the relevant download service are accessible. Do not remove an installed copy merely because the client is having trouble.

If checkout displays an error, first check your bank or payment account. A failed-looking transaction can still create a pending authorization, so do not repeatedly retry the payment until you know whether the first attempt is pending or complete.

If you were charged but the game is missing:
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account used for the purchase.
- Review the account’s Order History and look for a purchase-confirmation email.
- Open GOG’s library-refresh page.
- Restart GALAXY and check the library again.
- Keep the order ID, charge details, and account email.
- Contact GOG support instead of buying the game a second time.
A pending bank authorization is not the same as a completed purchase, but it should still be resolved through the payment provider and GOG support rather than ignored.

Login and verification emails are not arriving
Check that you are using the correct account email, then look in spam, junk, promotions, and filtered folders. GOG’s support guidance recommends allowing mail from @email.gog.com.
Test browser login separately from GALAXY and try another network. Avoid requesting password resets repeatedly in quick succession, since multiple requests can make it difficult to identify which message or token is current. If verification emails never arrive after these checks, the problem needs account-specific investigation.
When to contact GOG support
Use the GOG support request form when:
- your account was charged but the game is missing;
- login still fails after checking credentials, email delivery, and another network;
- a purchase, refund, or payment is disputed;
- the same fault occurs across devices and networks;
- GALAXY repeatedly reports a server-connection error;
- one game remains broken after general service checks; or
- a suspected outage continues beyond the normal recovery period.
Include the exact error text, a screenshot, your operating system, whether you used GALAXY or a browser, the affected game or games, the networks you tested, and the order ID when relevant. GOG’s form includes categories for account and website, orders and payments, downloads, game technical issues, GALAXY, and other issues. GOG says replies are typically within 24 hours, but that is a stated expectation rather than a guarantee.
