Where to find the Golden Hippopotamus
The encounter is at Shadow Keep in the Realm of Shadow, within the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. From the Shadow Keep Main Gate Site of Grace, proceed beyond the grace; the fight starts there. Gamer Guides’ boss entry identifies this as the encounter’s access point.
The expansion launched on June 21, 2024, for PC/Steam, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
What to expect in the fight
The Golden Hippopotamus is described as lumbering and slow, but it uses numerous area-of-effect attacks. The community-maintained Eldenpedia entry notes a visible change at roughly half health: thorn-like fur appears as the boss enters its second phase. That transformation is a useful cue to watch for as the fight changes.
