It also offers a single purchase for both mobile and PC versions of certain titles—not every paid Android game. Google said PC trials would come in the future; its current consumer page describes trials as available for select paid mobile games, so general PC trial availability is not confirmed.
What changed in Google Play’s March 2026 update?
On March 11, 2026, Google announced changes intended to make paid games easier to find, try and play across devices. The update added a dedicated PC discovery section in the Play Store’s Games tab for games optimized for Windows PCs. Google said the section would support wishlists and sale notifications. Google’s announcement framed these features as part of a broader effort to connect its mobile and PC gaming experiences.

Google said 160 million gamers use the You tab each month, describing this as a figure following the integration of mobile and PC gaming there the previous September. That is Google’s stated usage figure, not an independent measurement. In its April 23 Q1 recap, Google described its player community as two billion gamers; that company description should not be read as an independently verified active-user count. The Q1 recap also provided a later checkpoint on the rollout.
How do Google Play Game Trials work?
Trials let players try select paid games without paying upfront. Google’s current consumer information says the feature is available for select paid games on mobile. The Google Play Console developer FAQ specifies a trial of up to 60 minutes: the timer starts at first launch and continues if the player closes the game. When time runs out, the game prompts the player to buy it. If the player purchases the full game, progress carries over. See Google Play’s consumer information and the Google Play Console FAQ for the current descriptions.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
The timeline matters. In March, Google said mobile trials were rolling out soon and PC trials would arrive “in the future.” Its April recap later reported select paid trials available, while the current consumer page still describes trials for select paid games on mobile. These updates do not establish that PC trials are generally available as of October 4, 2026. Check the individual game listing for trial availability rather than assuming every paid game has one.
What developers need to know
Google’s developer FAQ says Play manages the trial timer, in-game gating and purchase flow, with no separate demo build required. Developers need Play App Signing, an Android App Bundle (.aab) and API level 21 or higher. New paid games have trials enabled by default, while existing games can enable them in Play Console. The FAQ says automatic anti-tamper protection is enabled.

The FAQ lists mobile, tablets, ChromeOS and Android XR as supported trial platforms; Android TV, Wear OS and Android Auto are not supported. That was roadmap context at the time, not confirmation that those controls are now available. The March developer post contains that announcement.

What does “buy once, play anywhere” mean?
For selected paid titles, one purchase unlocks both the mobile and PC versions. It is a title-specific offer, not a rule that every Android game purchase includes a Windows version. Google’s March announcement named the Reigns series, OTTTD and Dungeon Clawler; its April Q1 recap also named Brotato: Premium. Google’s current consumer page continues to qualify the offer as applying to select paid titles.

Before buying, check the specific Play listing to confirm which versions are included and whether the title is available for your devices. The same check is useful for progress synchronization: Google Play supports cross-device progress in compatible games, but availability depends on the game and compatible devices. A single purchase and synced progress are related conveniences, but neither should be assumed for every game.
Which games are available on PC versus mobile?
Google’s PC discovery area is for games optimized for Windows PCs, while mobile listings cover games playable on Android devices. The catalogs and feature availability need not match. A title may be mobile-only, PC-only or playable on both; a cross-platform purchase applies only where Google identifies the title as part of the selected offer. Trials are currently described for select paid mobile games, not generally confirmed for PC. Use the listing for each game to check its platforms, purchase terms and trial status.

Regional access and individual game availability can also differ. The official consumer page is Google Play Games: Play games across mobile and PC.
What are the minimum requirements to run Google Play Games on PC?
Google lists these minimum requirements for its PC app. Meeting them is a baseline for eligibility, not a guarantee that every game will perform identically or run well on a particular system.
