Choose Standard if you mainly want to play Grand Theft Auto VI. Consider Ultimate if its extra in-game content matters enough to you to justify the price shown for your platform. Because Rockstar says Standard owners can buy an Ultimate Edition Upgrade later, Standard is also the lower-commitment starting point. The available official information does not establish the Ultimate price or the upgrade price, so there is not enough to declare one edition the better value for everyone.
GTA 6 Standard vs. Ultimate Edition: what’s the difference?
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI Standard Edition and Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Standard includes the game. Rockstar’s store comparison lists additional in-game content with Ultimate, but its rendered comparison also shows many of those items under Standard. That overlap makes it unsafe to treat every item in the Ultimate list as exclusive or as content added over Standard.

Choose Standard if you want the base game
If your priority is playing GTA 6 and you do not place value on Ultimate’s confirmed extras, Standard is the straightforward choice. It includes the game, and Rockstar says you can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later through the PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming your Standard code.

Consider Ultimate if the extras matter to you
If Ultimate’s additional content appeals to you, compare the current Ultimate price with the Standard price plus the separately listed upgrade price on the same platform. The available information does not establish either the Ultimate price or upgrade price, so check the relevant storefront before deciding. The later cost of upgrading is likewise not established.
Use the upgrade path if you are undecided
Rockstar says Standard owners can upgrade after redeeming their code. That lets you start with Standard and decide later whether Ultimate’s content is worth buying. The upgrade’s availability and price should be checked in the platform store at the time you make that decision.

Compare these details before you buy
- Platform: Buy the version for your system: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Content: Decide whether the Ultimate extras matter to you, and verify the current platform-store comparison rather than assuming every listed item is exclusive.
- Total cost: Compare Ultimate with Standard plus the upgrade on the same platform. Rockstar’s store page displays $79.99, but that page-listed figure does not establish the Ultimate price or an edition price difference.
- Format: Rockstar’s physical version is code-in-box, not a disc copy. The package contains a download code; the game data is not on a disc.
- Purchase timing: Check whether any pre-order or early-purchase bonuses still apply and whether the offer covers your retailer and format.
Release date, pre-loading, and purchase bonuses
Rockstar announced a November 19, 2026 release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-loading scheduled to begin November 12. These are announced dates and may be worth checking again closer to release.
Rockstar’s pre-order announcement says purchases made before November 20, 2026 qualify for the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar Support also says digital pre-orders and purchases before that date include one month of GTA+. These are time-limited offers, not bonuses to assume are available after the stated window. For the physical code-in-box version, confirm eligibility with the retailer and applicable terms.

Does the physical version include a disc?
No. Rockstar Games Customer Support says, “A disc will not be included in the box.” The physical package contains a download code. Rockstar says physical-version buyers may purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade after redeeming that code.
