In the fight, avoid forcing attacks during its enraged phase: evade its committed strikes, then use the recovery window to punish.
Gore Magala weaknesses and best target
The MHWilds Field Codex table, marked for game version 1.042, gives the head the highest raw hitzone values among its listed parts. Those values also meet the database’s stated 45-point threshold for Weakness Exploit.

Fire is the leading general elemental recommendation in the same source’s summary; its table lists 20 fire on the head. Antennae have a higher thunder value than the head, but that part-specific figure does not make thunder the strongest choice across the whole fight. Hitzones are database values, not a guarantee of identical damage for every weapon or build. Where to find Gore Magala
Kiranico’s Shrouded in Black quest record, labeled game version 1.040, says: “Gore Magala was found inhabiting in the Iceshard Cliffs.” That record confirms Iceshard Cliffs for that quest. The Field Codex also lists Scarlet Forest and Ruins of Wyveria as locales, but does not explain their conditions; access to those encounters may depend on the quest. How to fight Gore Magala
Use the recovery after a committed attack
Icy Veins’ guide, last updated May 12, 2025, highlights a dangerous two-hit foreleg slam and a heavy body slam. Defend against or evade these committed attacks, then use the recovery window to strike. The head is the strongest general raw target in the cited table, but do not chase it through an unsafe animation. If your goal is a tail carve, use an opening to attack the tail instead.
Adjust when Gore Magala is enraged
The guide says Gore Magala gains additional attacks while enraged. Treat this phase as a reason to wait for clearer openings rather than extending a combo: an attack that runs long can leave you exposed to a follow-up. Choose the defensive approach that suits your weapon—guard, counter, or evade—and resume attacking after the monster commits and recovers.
Know what the guide reports about tools
The same 2025 guide reports that Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps work, while Flash Pods and Sonic Bombs do not. It also says Gore Magala can fly and Flash Pods will not interrupt that attack. Choose a practical loadout
- Damage type: compare your weapon’s damage type with the head’s listed raw hitzone—60 slash, 55 blunt, or 50 shot.
- Element: consider fire if your weapon can make effective use of elemental damage; the cited table lists 20 fire on the head.
- Positioning: if reaching the head is unsafe, attack an exposed part during the opening rather than forcing a hit.
- Defense: favor the guard, counter, or dodge options you can reliably use against the foreleg and body slams.
- Preparation: the 2025 guide reports utility from Shock and Pitfall Traps, but not from Flash Pods or Sonic Bombs.
