Gothic II Complete Classic packages the original RPG sequel with its Night of the Raven expansion. Its appeal is a richly interconnected fantasy world, exploration, and a large cast of quests; its trade-off is an older design that critics say can feel awkward on modern console controls. The Switch version launched in 2023, and the game is also available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S following a 2026 release.

What does Gothic II Complete Classic include?

The package contains Gothic II and the Night of the Raven expansion. THQ Nordic says the expansion adds the Jharkendar region, along with weapons, enemies, skills, and quests. The story continues the Nameless Hero’s journey after the magical barrier falls and prisoners are freed from the Valley of Mines; bandits and former convicts threaten the surrounding area and Khorinis. THQ Nordic’s Switch release announcement describes the package, while the official game page outlines the setting and features.

THQ Nordic advertises over 100 missions, over 500 unique NPCs, more than 200 weapons and magical spells, and over 12 hours of English voice acting. Those are publisher feature claims, not independently verified counts.

Is Gothic II Complete Classic worth playing today?

It is most compelling if you value a world that rewards curiosity and are comfortable learning an older role-playing game’s systems. Reviews praise its atmosphere, story, exploration, and the sense that the world is full of interactions and tasks. That breadth is central to the appeal: the setting is not simply a backdrop for a sequence of fights, but a place to investigate and navigate.

#1 Best Overall
Gothic 2 Classic - PlayStation 5
  • Gripping storyline continuing from the adventures of the first game yet able to be played and enjoyed by gamers who have not played the original Gothic
  • Tailor made controls and UI to enjoy this open world gem
  • Three different character guilds to join each with their own unique allies and enemies within the world and skills to enhance through practice
  • Over 100 thrilling quests and over 50 hours of gameplay
  • A detailed, lively game environment with over 500 individual characters (each with their own daily routine)

The age shows in the way it feels to play. Reviews describe the controls as clunky or less natural on console, point to limited modern comfort features, and report occasional frame-rate drops and bugs. Those observations vary by review and are not results of comparative testing, so they should be treated as reported experiences rather than guaranteed problems for every player. The Metacritic review page collects coverage of the Switch version.

How does the Switch version run, and has it been updated?

THQ Nordic’s Switch patch history documents post-launch updates, including a Patch 3 dated March 6, 2024. Its notes list changes and fixes covering the interface, input, visuals, gameplay, motion controls, movement, and crashes. A changelog confirms that the game received maintenance, but it does not establish that every reported issue was resolved or describe performance for every current system and play session. Read the Patch 3 notes for the listed changes.
