How to unlock the Great Hollow
The publisher calls the event “The Great Hollows” on its unlock page; “The Great Hollow” is also commonly used. It is a Shifting Earth event from the Forsaken Hollows DLC.

Bandai Namco’s unlock guide says to defeat at least two main-game bosses, including Tricephalos and one other boss, and make both Scholar and Undertaker playable. Once those conditions are met, visit the chapel that opens behind the Small Jar Merchant. This unlocks the event and the Balancers boss expedition. The Forsaken Hollows DLC is required for its content.
For Deep of Night, Bandai Namco says DLC Shifting Earth content can appear in base-game expeditions after a post-release update, but all three matched players must own the DLC for those exclusive contents to appear. See the publisher’s DLC guide for that qualification.

How do I remove the Crystal Curse?

Look for the large glowing blue crystals around the map. Approach a small crystal and interact with it.

Choose “Resonate.” The crystal breaks.

Repeat until you have broken four small crystals. PC Gamer’s Great Hollow walkthrough reports that a run usually has eight small crystals, so you may not need to find every one.

After the fourth crystal breaks, the large crystal in the center shatters and the central objective is marked.

Go to the central crystal and interact with it. Choose “Gain the power of the great crystal” to lift the Crystal Curse.

The same walkthrough describes the curse as cutting your maximum HP to 50% when you enter major strongholds or castles. It also reports that gaining the central crystal’s power increases art charge rate when your flasks have been exhausted.
How many crystals do I need to break, and where are they?
You need to resonate with four small crystals to break the central great crystal. The walkthrough reports usually eight small crystals in a run, but does not establish a fixed spawn pattern or guaranteed positions.

Crystals may be found on day one; the walkthrough says their locations are marked on the map when day two begins. Check the map then, but treat older screenshots and fixed routes as suggestions rather than guarantees.

Nightreign gives you two exploration days, with a mandatory night boss each night, before the Nightlord battle on day three. The safe area contracts during exploration and eventually forces players toward the boss arena. Bandai Namco’s starter guide describes the expedition loop and notes: “When night falls over Limveld, a powerful boss will emerge to attack you.”
That clock makes crystal collection a routing choice, not a reason to ignore the rest of the expedition. Resonate with crystals you encounter naturally, check for newly marked locations at the start of day two, and weigh a detour against the shrinking safe area, nearby strongholds, the central crystal’s location, and time remaining before the night boss. This is a practical inference from the expedition loop—not a verified fastest route.
There is no established universally best order. Cleansing early may make later stronghold visits less punishing, but a long detour can cost time or expose you to the Night’s Tide. Consider how far crystals and the center are from your current route and whether you can still reach the next required encounter safely.
Why older map advice may be out of date
Bandai Namco’s version 1.03.1 patch notes say the range of clues revealed by using a map in Great Hollow was expanded. The update also adjusted some temple curse effects and listed fixes involving Crystal Curse behavior, temple progression, Spiritstreams, enemy placement, and incorrect map displays for Scarabs, treasures, and Sites of Grace. Consequently, older routes and screenshots may not match current clue visibility or map behavior. The live build on every platform is not established here.
