The GPD Win Mini (2025) is available with AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, a 12-core/24-thread Zen 5 processor from the Strix Point family. The flagship configuration pairs it with Radeon 890M integrated graphics, configurable power limits of roughly 20W to 35W, up to 64GB of LPDDR5x-7500 memory, and up to a 2TB M.2 2280 SSD.
GPD also sells the 2025 Win Mini with the Ryzen AI 9 365 and Ryzen 7 8840U, depending on the market and seller. The HX 370 is the most capable option, but its premium makes the most sense for enthusiasts, demanding emulation, CPU-heavy software, and buyers who specifically want the Win Mini’s clamshell design and built-in keyboard.

Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Strix Point explained
Strix Point is AMD’s platform name for mobile Ryzen AI 300-series processors built around Zen 5 CPU technology. In the Win Mini, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 combines 12 CPU cores and 24 threads with Radeon 890M integrated graphics.
AMD lists the HX 370 with a maximum boost clock of up to 5.1GHz, 36MB of cache, a 4nm manufacturing process, and 50 TOPS of AI performance. Its Radeon 890M has 16 graphics compute units and a listed maximum frequency of up to 2.9GHz. See AMD’s reference specifications.
Those AI figures describe neural-processing capability, not gaming speed. They do not mean the handheld will deliver 50% higher frame rates, nor do they guarantee that every local AI application will use the NPU. Software frameworks, Windows support, drivers, and the application’s choice of CPU, GPU, or NPU all matter.

What changed in the 2025 refresh?
- Higher-end processor option: The HX 370 adds Zen 5 CPU cores and Radeon 890M graphics above the Ryzen 7 8840U’s Zen 4 and Radeon 780M combination.
- Additional CPU choice: The Ryzen AI 9 365 is also listed for some versions and markets.
- Improved cooling hardware: GPD describes a new cooling module and thickened heat pipe, along with claimed improvements in heat transfer and dissipation. Those percentage claims are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.
- 120Hz display features: The 7-inch 1920×1080 panel supports 60Hz and 120Hz modes, with VRR/FreeSync Premium support identified in the product material. Actual behavior can depend on Windows settings, power mode, drivers, and game support.
- 2280 SSD support: The longer M.2 2280 format provides a more conventional upgrade and replacement path than some smaller handheld storage designs.
- More memory: Configurations reach 64GB of LPDDR5x-7500 RAM, useful because integrated graphics share system memory.
- Physical revisions: GPD also describes changes including redesigned front-facing speakers.

How fast is the HX 370 version?
The HX 370 is a substantial specification upgrade over the 8840U: it has 12 cores and 24 threads rather than eight cores and 16 threads, uses Zen 5 rather than Zen 4, and includes Radeon 890M instead of Radeon 780M graphics. That gives it more CPU capacity for compiling, multitasking, demanding emulators, large mods, and other workloads that scale across multiple cores.
Gaming performance is more complicated. The Radeon 890M is integrated graphics, not a discrete laptop GPU. It shares memory with the CPU and is constrained by the handheld’s power limit, cooling capacity, resolution, driver, and game engine. Native 1080p at high settings will not be realistic for every modern game. Sensible results may require 720p or 900p rendering, reduced settings, upscaling, or frame generation.
GPD lists vendor-supplied platform figures of 80 TOPS for the HX 370 and 38 TOPS for the 8840U. These numbers should not be used as direct gaming benchmarks. A useful comparison must identify the power limit, resolution, preset, upscaling or frame-generation settings, driver, BIOS mode, and whether the device was plugged in.

Battery life, thermals, and power limits
The advertised 20W–35W range is configurable, not a fixed performance rating. A 35W profile can deliver more sustained performance than a lower-power mode, but it also increases heat, fan noise, and energy consumption. The display refresh rate, brightness, Wi-Fi activity, background Windows processes, and battery health also affect runtime.
Independent review coverage has reported approximately three to six hours of battery life depending on the workload and settings. That is a reviewer measurement range, not an official guarantee. Light desktop use and lower-power gaming can be very different from demanding games at 35W. Gaming, emulation, and productivity

Emulation performance varies by system, emulator, renderer, driver, and power setting. The HX 370’s additional CPU cores and stronger integrated graphics provide more headroom, but they do not remove emulator-specific bottlenecks.

USB4 can also connect an external GPU. However, the enclosure, cable, graphics card, drivers, bandwidth overhead, and display-routing method all affect results. The Win Mini supports USB4 eGPUs; an eGPU is not included, and USB4 should not be treated as equivalent to a dedicated OCuLink connection or as a guarantee of desktop-level performance.
HX 370 versus 8840U: which configuration should you buy?

The HX 370 does not automatically produce a proportional frame-rate increase in every game. If the game is GPU-limited, memory-bandwidth-limited, or constrained by the selected power mode, the cheaper 8840U version may deliver the better value. The key question is whether you will use the extra performance—or are simply paying for the highest specification.

As of August 18, 2026, a GPD-branded retailer listed an HX 370 Win Mini configuration with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD at $1,309, alongside a displayed $1,649 comparison price. This is a dated retailer price signal, not a universal MSRP. Taxes, shipping, stock, regional warranty coverage, return terms, and configuration can change the real cost: retailer listing.
Before ordering, verify:
- The exact model year and processor.
- RAM and SSD capacity.
- The CPU shown on the invoice and, after delivery, in the BIOS and Windows system information.
- Keyboard layout and included regional power adapter.
- Seller warranty, return period, repair process, taxes, and import costs.
GPD’s boutique distribution model can produce a different support experience from buying a mainstream handheld through a large local retailer. The seller’s warranty may matter as much as the specification.

Should you buy the GPD Win Mini (2025)?
Buy the HX 370 version if you specifically want the smallest clamshell Windows handheld with the strongest available CPU and integrated graphics, and you will use that capability for demanding emulation, multitasking, high-refresh gaming at reduced settings, or productivity. The 64GB option is also more defensible for memory-intensive workloads than it is for ordinary gaming.
Choose the 8840U version if price matters more than maximum performance and your library consists largely of games that already run well at moderate settings. The 8840U remains a practical handheld processor; the HX 370 premium is not automatically justified by the name or AI TOPS figures alone.
Skip the Win Mini if you want the simplest console-like experience, the lowest-cost route into PC gaming, a larger screen, or the performance of a modern discrete GPU. The Steam Deck OLED offers a more console-oriented SteamOS experience, while the ROG Ally X offers a mainstream Windows handheld design and broader retail ecosystem, but neither has the Win Mini’s clamshell keyboard and compact mini-laptop format. Larger models in the GPD range may offer more screen area, battery capacity, or cooling headroom at the expense of portability.
