Gray Zone Warfare entered Early Access on April 30, 2024. Its next major update, 0.5: Rogue Ops, is scheduled for October 22, 2026, with a Supporter Edition preview announced for October 19. The developer says 0.5 will introduce hideout crafting and building, rogue PMC play, smuggling activities, new weapons and large locations. It also plans a soft wipe: locker contents and money will be removed, while rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels and completed tasks will carry over.
When did Gray Zone Warfare enter Early Access?
MADFINGER Games launched Gray Zone Warfare in Early Access on April 30, 2024. The developer described it as a first-person, open-world tactical shooter set on Lamang Island, with PvE and PvEvP servers, solo or squad play, and proximity voice chat. Its launch announcement put the map at 42 km²; that is the developer’s 2024 launch-era figure, not a newly verified measurement. MADFINGER’s launch announcement also described three factions with 16 players per faction and squads of up to four friends. Those are historical launch details, so check the current Steam listing for present-day limits.
Early Access is the game’s store development status. The developer separately says Update 0.5 marks the transition from pre-alpha to alpha; the two labels describe different things.
What is coming in Update 0.5: Rogue Ops?
In an announcement dated October 1, 2026, MADFINGER scheduled Update 0.5: Rogue Ops for October 22, with a Supporter Edition preview beginning October 19. As of October 8, both dates are still in the future, so they are announced dates rather than confirmation that the update has shipped. The developer calls 0.5 a milestone in the game’s move from pre-alpha to alpha. Read the Update 0.5 announcement.

New gameplay and content
The announced gameplay loop centers on building and crafting in a Hideout. Players will also be able to take the role of a rogue PMC and participate in smuggling activities. MADFINGER has additionally promised community-requested improvements, new weapons and large new locations. It said more details would arrive in a three-part devlog series; the announcement does not provide a complete feature list.
What the 0.5 soft wipe removes and keeps
For players coming from Update 0.4, the announced soft wipe is intended to rebalance the in-game economy while retaining some progression:
- Wiped: locker contents and money.
- Kept: rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels and completed tasks.
This is described as a soft wipe, not a full wipe. The announcement specifies these retained and removed items; it does not establish what happens to anything not listed.
What Early Access means for buyers
Steam’s Early Access Q&A says the game is incomplete and will continue to change through updates. MADFINGER plans to add content and world-building, weapons, gear, quests and environmental storytelling, while also working on optimization and bug fixes. The developer says Early Access could last several years, depending on community feedback and progress toward its vision; that is an estimate, not a fixed release window. Steam also says the Early Access version is priced below the eventual full release, but the final price has not been determined. See the Steam listing and Early Access Q&A.

Which Gray Zone Warfare edition should you choose?
The developer’s April 2026 edition guide describes four digital editions. The higher tiers add starting equipment, storage and extras; the developer says included items can also be obtained in-game. The official site lists Supporter Edition update-preview access. Consult the dated edition guide and the official game site for current terms.

- New Pointstreak system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives
- Weapons proficiency system that allows you to customize your favorite weapons, making them more effiecent in any map or mode
- Online/offline 2-player co-op Special Ops Survival mode that earns you experience through 16 frantic objective-based missions
- New play modes, including: Kill Confirmed mode, Team Defender mode and user generated match modes
- Integration with 'Call of Duty: Elite,' an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
| Edition | What the developer lists | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Bonus equipment, basic locker and lockbox. | Entry tier if the additional starting gear and storage of higher editions are not important to you. |
| Tactical | Additional tactical equipment and a larger locker. | More starting gear and storage than Standard. |
| Elite | Additional elite equipment, more locker space and an expanded lockbox. | Higher storage capacity and a larger lockbox than lower tiers. |
| Supporter | Exclusive extras such as cosmetic apparel and designation, additional equipment, the largest locker and lockbox, and update-preview access listed on the official site. | The only edition in this comparison with the announced 0.5 preview access. |
The developer presents the extra items as a more convenient start and a way to support development, rather than exclusive gear that cannot be earned through play. It also says edition upgrades are available by paying the price difference. Prices vary by page, offer and region: the April 2026 guide lists one set of prices, while the official homepage displays a different Supporter price. Check Steam in your country before buying rather than relying on a universal price figure.
