Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.3, titled Winds of War, launched on May 22, 2025. It introduced dynamic weather that affects visibility and NPC perception, experimental combat outposts and squad strike missions, and a repair overhaul that trades lower cost for longer downtime. It also changed health, tasks, AI, progression, and community features. Later updates followed, so 0.3 is a historical patch—not a statement of the game’s current version.
What Update 0.3 added
MADFINGER Games described 0.3 as a major update. Its headline additions were a realistic weather system and conflict zones, alongside first-iteration features the studio called experimental: combat outposts (COPs) and squad strike missions. The official Update 0.3 changelog presents these as systems intended to develop with player feedback.
Weather that affects play
Rain, storms, fog, and wind can occur during both day and night. The map and main menu show a forecast based on real weather data. Weather is more than a visual change: hot, humid conditions make player hydration and energy deplete faster; wind and rain affect NPC hearing, while rain and fog affect NPC sight. Rice fields can also fill with water during rainy weather.
That creates practical trade-offs. Poor visibility can make it harder for NPCs to see, but weather can also alter how they hear nearby activity. Check the forecast before a raid and account for conditions when planning movement and supplies.

Conflict zones, outposts, and strike missions
Conflict zones add a place where players can earn experience for killing enemy PMCs. Combat outposts are guarded by neutral NPCs until captured; a faction that controls one receives perks. The published changelog includes headings for PvP and PvE implementations and two levels, but does not explain their mechanics in detail, so those labels do not establish further rules about how outposts work.
Squad strike missions appear randomly around the map, have a time limit, and must be accepted and completed by a squad. They offer progression outside the main campaign. Both COPs and strike missions were described as experimental first iterations, rather than fully detailed, finished systems.
How the repair system changed
Durability no longer decreases because of a coma or death. Instead, it falls through use, with bullet impacts amplifying wear. Update 0.3 adds two repair approaches, making the choice primarily one of cost versus downtime:
| Repair option | Cost | Availability during repair |
|---|---|---|
| Slow repair | More cost-effective | The item cannot be used while it is being repaired. |
| Repair kit | More expensive | Instant repair; the item returns immediately. |
Choose the slower option when you can tolerate having the item out of use and want to spend less. A kit costs more but avoids waiting for the repair to finish.

Health and injuries
The health system adds guts as a vital organ in the lower abdomen; its destruction causes a coma. Symptoms can include sore arms, an upset stomach, cramps, vomiting, tremors, and fainting. Player and enemy health screens show more injury detail.
Tasks and campaign flow
- Tasks can be managed away from the forward operating base (FOB).
- Kill-task progress is shared among squad members.
- The update adds and reworks tasks and task types.
- Starter Town progression is streamlined.
The changelog also lists economy rebalancing, restocking changes, and looting improvements, without specifying every underlying value or rule.

Fixes and version context
The changelog lists 99 crashes fixed. It also contains a warning specific to NVIDIA driver 576.40 and most 50-series users, recommending a previous driver or 576.28 while MADFINGER pursued a fix. That was guidance issued with the May 2025 update, not current driver advice.
Update 0.3 is not the latest release in the official sources available here. MADFINGER’s 2025 recap calls Winds of War its most significant release of that year and separately describes Patch 0.3.5.0. The studio also published an official Patch 0.4.4.0 page dated June 5, 2026. The live game version on October 8, 2026 has not been established here; consult the studio’s current patch notes if you need to identify today’s build.
