What Into the Abyss adds
Into the Abyss expands exploration beneath the surface of Skunk Pond. Its diving progression and equipment support underwater exploration, while underwater base building adds a new place to build. The update also brings new encounters and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. Together, these features make the August release the most substantial confirmed step in the update sequence so far, according to Xbox’s description.

What the player figure does—and does not—mean
In August 2026, Xbox Wire quoted Obsidian as saying the Grounded series had over 30 million players to date. That is a franchise-wide figure; it is not a Grounded 2 sales total, a count of unique Grounded 2 players, or a concurrent-player figure. The statement appears in the Into the Abyss announcement.
