The console inside starts a locked-in, multi-phase boss fight, so prepare before interacting with it.
How to reach the Assistant Manager
- Unlock Sector B in the Black Anthill Lab, then return to the main lab and follow the newly opened Sector B corridor toward the deepest area.
- Continue past the soldier ants to the room with a glass window. Press the button at the back of the area near the cliff edge to expose the glass.
- Use a bomb to break through the glass and enter the room.
- Prepare for the fight before interacting with the console. Activating it starts the encounter and locks you in.

What to bring and how to prepare
The encounter guide recommends a weapon that deals busting damage, such as the Insect Hammer, along with the Smasher mutation. It also suggests bringing healing and stamina recovery items, naming Boost Juice, Fuzz on the Rocks, and Grumble’s Granola Bars. These are community-guide recommendations, not results from controlled testing.
- Consider a shield if you are using a one-handed weapon; the guide suggests it can help block or deflect static attacks.
- Plan for limited elemental options. The encounter reference says the boss is weak to salty or sour damage, but notes that access to those weapons before this fight is limited. It mentions salty arrows as a possible option.
- Keep room to move. Robot enemies and arena hazards appear during the fight, so avoid getting so focused on one target that you lose track of the arena.
Assistant Manager fight phases and hazards
Opening phase
The fight begins with two TAYZ.Ts. The Assistant Manager uses quick and charged ranged shots, so watch for incoming attacks while dealing with the robots.

At 75% health
When the boss reaches 75% health, an ARC.R and two more TAYZ.Ts enter. The added enemies compete for your attention, making it important to keep checking the arena rather than focusing only on the boss.
Later phases
Rotating lasers and shock pillars become part of the encounter. The community guide recommends using the window or back wall to get away from the shock pillar’s aura, then finding a safe point to duck or jump the laser. Track both hazards as you move; focusing on one can leave you exposed to the other.
The encounter reference lists the Assistant Manager as weak to salty or sour and busting damage, and resistant to slashing and several other damage types. Those detailed damage claims come from a community-maintained guide and are not independently verified here.

Defeating the Assistant Manager awards a unique mutation, according to Obsidian’s Grounded 1.0 release notes. The community encounter reference also lists 1,000 Raw Science as a reward.

- Loot the Assistant Manager Keycard from the defeated boss.
- Use the keycard on the door to the right to reach the glass catwalk above the arena.
- Take the middle door to reach the Super Chip. The other door contains extra loot.
- Follow the quest route back toward the surface near the Trash Heap, then deliver the chip to BURG.L.
