The May 2025 report was about a possible port, not confirmation of a remaster, remake, upgraded graphics, or specific platforms.
What did the GTA 4 leak actually say?
Insider Gaming reported on May 12, 2025, that GTA community leaker Tez2 had posted: “Someone at R* hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year.” Insider Gaming’s report attributed that wording to Tez2; it was a leak claim, not an announcement from Rockstar.

Because the post appeared in May 2025, “later this year” referred to the rest of 2025. The report’s headline used “remaster,” but the quoted claim said “port.” A port generally means bringing a game to another platform; the wording alone does not establish a remaster with upgraded visuals or a remake. GamesRadar likewise characterized the claim as a port rather than evidence of a remaster.
Did GTA 4 arrive on a new platform by the predicted date?
No. GameSpot’s July 13, 2026 follow-up reported that the predicted end-of-2025 arrival had not happened: no port appeared in that window. That establishes that the forecast was missed; it does not establish whether Rockstar ever had an internal project or whether it might release something in the future. GameSpot’s follow-up does not provide a new release date.

Is GTA 4 getting a remaster?
There is no confirmation in the cited reporting that Rockstar is making or releasing a GTA 4 remaster. There is also no confirmed platform list or new date. The rumor should not be treated as proof of a project: the original post relayed an alleged hint, while the later report only documents that the predicted window passed.
How can you play GTA 4 now?
GTA IV is an existing game, separate from the unconfirmed rumor. Reporting identifies the Complete Edition as available for PC and describes modern console access as limited outside Xbox backward compatibility. Availability and compatibility can depend on region, edition, and the exact console, so check the current store listing or Xbox compatibility information before buying. PC Gamer’s reporting discusses the existing PC release and console availability.

If you want to play while waiting for any official news, look for the existing Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition listing for PC; it is not the rumored port. For Xbox, verify that the specific version you intend to use works on your console and is available to purchase or access in your region.

A Rockstar announcement naming the release, platforms, and date would settle the question. Until one appears, “GTA 4 remaster” is a search-friendly label for an unconfirmed rumor, not a confirmed product. The Rockstar page available in the cited material identifies the game but does not provide a readable announcement about a new release.
