Rockstar lists GTA IV’s PC minimum as Windows 10 64-bit, a Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850, 2 GB of memory, a 512 MB GeForce 8600 or ATI 3870 graphics card, and 22 GB of hard-drive space. These are minimum requirements—not a recommended specification or a guarantee of smooth performance.
GTA 4 minimum system requirements
Rockstar’s official GTA IV PC requirements page, last updated April 30, 2024, lists the following minimums:

Rockstar does not give a separate recommended-spec tier on that page. Meeting the listed minimum does not establish a particular frame rate or guarantee compatibility with every PC. The page cautions that some mobile chipsets, integrated graphics, and AGP cards may be incompatible, and that specifications it does not list may not be supported.
What you need beyond the hardware
Rockstar says installation and online play require a Rockstar Games account and an internet connection for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification. The requirements page also lists Rockstar Games platform, DirectX, Chromium, and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package as required software installations. It includes notes about serial-code registration and says requirements can change as downloadable content and programming change.

Rockstar Games Launcher space and requirements
Rockstar’s launcher requirements page, last updated May 1, 2024, lists Windows 10 64-bit, the same named minimum processor, 2 GB of memory, a DirectX 11-supported graphics card, and 1 GB of storage for the launcher. Supported games require additional installation space and may have additional requirements. The game’s stated 22 GB and the launcher’s 1 GB are separate figures; allow extra free space for updates rather than treating 23 GB as an exact total.
Steam update download
For existing Steam owners, Rockstar says GTA IV updates to GTA IV: Complete Edition and estimates the update download at approximately 6 GB. That is an estimated download size in the Steam instructions, not a replacement for the 22 GB storage figure in the system requirements.

Eligible physical copies
Rockstar’s disc instructions explain that eligible physical copies can be activated and updated to Complete Edition using the activation code on the game manual through Rockstar Games Launcher.
How to check whether your PC meets the requirements
Rockstar recommends Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool, DxDiag, to check your system information. Follow these steps:

- Open the Start menu, type
dxdiag, and run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. - On the System tab, note your operating system, processor, and memory.
- Open the Display tab and note the graphics device name, manufacturer, chip type, approximate video memory, and driver version and date.
- Compare the processor, operating system, memory, and graphics hardware with Rockstar’s minimum list. For graphics, compare the model and configuration as well as video memory; a matching memory figure alone does not establish compatibility.
Rockstar’s requirements page warns that some integrated, mobile, and AGP graphics configurations may not work, so an apparently close match is not conclusive.

No performance level can be inferred from Rockstar’s minimum list. It does not include recommended specifications, frame-rate targets, or a guarantee of smooth play. The safest conclusion is limited: the listed parts are Rockstar’s published minimum, while actual compatibility and performance are not established by that list alone.
