GTA 6 has already set major pre-release records—but they are trailer-viewing records, not game sales. Take-Two says the first trailer drew more than 93 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours, while the second drew more than 475 million views across platforms in the same period. Guinness recognition, reported in September 2026, puts the second trailer in the narrower category of most-viewed game trailer in 24 hours. The game itself remains unreleased as of October 8, 2026.
Which records has GTA 6 broken before release?
The documented records concern how many people watched the trailers during their first day. The two figures have different scopes: one is a YouTube record for Trailer 1; the other is a cross-platform launch figure for Trailer 2.

These are first-day measurements, not current cumulative view totals. The figures also should not be compared as though they describe the same category: Trailer 1’s cited record is specific to YouTube and non-music videos, while Trailer 2’s Take-Two figure counts views across platforms.
What does Guinness recognize?
TechRadar reported that the 2027 Gamer’s Edition of Guinness World Records recognizes a GTA 6 trailer for the most views of a game trailer in 24 hours, at 475 million. That narrower category supports saying GTA 6 holds a game-trailer record; it does not establish that the trailer remains the most-viewed video of any kind.
#1 Best Overall
TechRadar attributed this comment to Alice Bell, editor of the Gamer’s Edition: “Grand Theft Auto 6 started breaking records before it came out.” Bell also said the first trailer still had the most views in 24 hours of any video game trailer, and that for a time the second trailer had the biggest video launch of anything, according to Rockstar. These remarks are reported through TechRadar, rather than a direct Guinness interview transcript.
Are these GTA 6 sales records?
No. GTA 6 has not launched, so trailer views cannot be presented as game sales or as a realized sales record. Take-Two’s May 2026 investor presentation says the Grand Theft Auto series has sold nearly 230 million units and reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any entertainment release in history. Those are franchise-level claims, not GTA 6 sales results.
